RE: [Scleroderma Friends and Family ] SD and Shingles -

Hi Diane,

My Mom has had SD for about 20 yrs. She has had Shingles several times.
Sometimes have been worse than others. It can be very painful. Shingle
actually affect the nerve endings on the skin. She is most contagious the first
7 to 10 days. The first time my got Shingles I wast 3 weeks pregnant with my
daughter. I was very nervous. I had to stay away from her for 2WEEKS!!! That
was so difficult since we are so close. She had also gotten them when my
children were Babies. I had to keep her from them for about 2 weeks. You
should not have any worries with Christmas. That is about 2 1/2 wks away from
now. I would just keep an eye on things as the time gets closer. If she is
worse in 2 wks than I would re-think things. Where did she come down with the
Shingles? My Mom had them on her scalp. I cried with her! That was the most
painful for her. She actually lost hair from them. Some hair has grown back.
You just need to wait things out. I am sure the medication will help her.

Trust me, I FEEL FOR YOU!!!!!!

I hope this helps you and relieves some stress for you.

Nadine

hi everyone - haven't been any posts in a long time - hope all is well with
everyone.looking for some advice - my mom - who has SD - for 24 years - has had
a rough year. she has been batteling with sores on her foot that have been
taking forever to heal - been dealing with it since april. but now, she has
shingles.have any of you or your family members with sd had shingles? how long
can she expect to 'deal' with it? she went to the doc's yesterday and got a med
to take - which is supposed to lessen all of the effects.she is worried because
my sister is coming home for christmas with my 15 month old nephew and her
husband - they are coming in jan. and leaving from here to move to georgia - she
doesn't want to give the baby chicken pox, and it may be some time before we see
them again - any help you guys can give would be great!thanks so much!diane
