Worried about my friend

Hi,my best friend of 14 years was diagnosed about
2 years ago with scleroderma. She has had
arthitritis since she was about 6. I had and still really
have no idea what SD is.She tries not to worry me with
it but I saw something that just disturbed me. We
are young, both of us 24,we were going out the other
night and she had a shirt on that revealed her back and
I noticed it was all red so I asked her was it
sunburn and she nonchalantly told me it was a result of
the SD. She told me it affected the blood vessels
that were on her skin. I thought the disease made
arteries and organs harden, can someone tell me if that is
what happened to her blood vessels. Also everything I
am reading seems to only have a grim outcome. I love
my best friend dearly and would truly like to see us
grow old and have families. How long can you live with
SD? I know these are a lot of questions it's just
that I am concerned and want to know what can I do to
help and be supportive of her. thanks for any
response.<br>sams_96
