Re: [sch_lap_band_support] Surgery List (from another LB support group)

Thanks for the lists, Amy.  There are several things I didn't think of, or aren't mentioned by Dr. S, especially the pillow for the seat belt.  I live over an hour's drive from the hospital, so I would have been very uncomfortable if you hadn't suggested that.  Thanks so much.

Subject: Re: [sch_lap_band_support] Surgery List (from another LB support group)

Hi Dorothy,

This won't be pretty because I'm cutting and pasting
it from Word. This is a list I found on another
group's site before my surgery. Of course this doesn't
replace Dr. T's info, but I found some additional
suggestions from this list that were helpful. Every
doctor seems to use a different diet - so obviously
don't follow this diet, just read the food options for
choices within the diet Dr. T gives you.

Have a great surgery. I was so happy to find that it
was less painful than I'd ever expected. I hope you
have a wonderful experience.

Take care!
Amy

LB Surgery Prep

Here is what I used to shop from, it was a lifesaver.
lab-band shopping list
heating pad

flexible ice pack

liquid tylenol (they make adult strength)

chewable or liquid gas-x

a few books or movies

comfy clothes (loose waisted shorts or sweat pants)

squishy pillow for car ride (guard against seatbelt)

a sports bra (doc said no underwire for a few days)

protien shakes

flavored water (propel, poweraid, gatorade, crystal
light, fruit2O)

make sure you have a good blender

I bought a drink mixer for the protien mix (cost $10
at walmart)

broth or stuff to make broth

sugarfree popsicles and jello

sugar free breathmints (ask your doctor)

*Ask at your pre-op for the pain med prescription so
you can have it all ready to go when you get home, our
walgreens has to order liquid pain meds and it takes 3
days to get them.

Okay all, I've been studiously looking at all the
threads here and trying to pull out all the things it
looks like I should stock up and have in house to get
ready for my surgery in just about three weeks (very
excited).

Here's my list so far, anything to add? I'd love to
hear from everyone...

popsicles (any recommended brands. Should I go sugar
free?)
crystal light
jello (sugar free?)
gatorade
ensure
chicken/beef/veggie broths (any good brands? should I
get low sodium?)
protein powder for shakes
frozen fruits for protein shakes
soups (tomato? Other good flavors I should consider?)
liquid tylenol
liquid gasx
heating pad

I had this in the house:

Liquid Tylenol for adults
Gas-X chewable
Vitamins - chewable centrum
Calcium - chewable viactin

First 2 weeks, clear diet:
Juice: Apple, Cranberry, Grape - regular not diet
Broth: my mom made me home made broth...thank you mom
coffee: regular w/skim milk
Ice pops, one box of 24, regular sugar
Tea's, any flavor (hot)
Crystal light, any flavor

Week 3 thicker liquids
Protein shakes
cream of wheat - maple flavor
cream soups... I lived on butternut squash by
campbells mmmm mmm good
plain or vanilla yogurt

Week 4 pureed:
Any food you can puree
mashed taters
mashed sweet taters
tuna salad
soups, creamed
butternut squash
