Jolene,
I am 17 months post op and have not used the B12 patches. I have been
using the Optisource tablets sold at Walgreens. It's an all in one
chewable tablet 4 time a day. You can purchase it on the internet or
at the store. It is shipped for free when purchased on the internet.
The only other suggestion my program had was to add calcium citrate
to my diet. I use Upcal D in the powdered form, which I add to my
protein drink every day. For protein drinks, I use Carnation Instant
Breakfast no sugar added in the powdered form (the premixed drinks
are nasty).
Ignore the ignorance of others. The comments are defense mechanisms
based on their level of discomfort. Gastric bypass was one of the
best decissions of my life! The surgery is by no means the "easy way"
and you will likely question your decission in the early days. Hang
in there, follow the guidelines of your program and you will look
back on this as a defining moment of your life.
The exercise component of this program is extremely important. When I
started to exercise after surgery I had a torn tendon in my ankle and
a knee that would dislocate while I walked. The first few months were
tough. I kept going and the walking kept getting easier. I now walk
for 45 minutes every day. A schedule is extremely important to me. I
discovered that I need the schedule to continue to do the exercise.
As a result, during the work week, I walk at 5am. (Never thought I
would be a morning person)I never miss a day of walking. (no excuses)
As for food to eat, Stouffer's makes a wonderful entree meal of a
chicken breast and mashed potatoes that is a whole meal for me these
days. It will take time after surgery to build up to that amount of
food. I now eat 5 - 6 small meals a day.
Hang in there, it will seem like getting to surgery is taking
forever, but once it happens, things will go much faster. This
experience will be what you make of it, not what others think. Plan
the work, work the plan. I have reached and exceeded my goal weight
reduction and you can do the same.
Good luck,
Steve

resistence from peole that know you are having gastric bypass? I had
one girl at my work who was shocked the insurance company would even
pay for "such a surgery" needless to say lunch was not very
comfortable after that. She said all I would have to do is eat less
and only the good foods, blah, blah, blah....
