It is completely normal to be both excited and nervous. This surgery is not only life saving it is life altering! That is why most doctors/hospitals and insurance plans want you to speak to a mental health counselor prior to this surgery. My surgery was almost 10 years ago, I had my surgery in Pittsburgh, PA (it is where I lived then) and while I had some complications afterwards, even KNOWING that, I would do it again in a heartbeat! What helped me remain calm, was to talk to my family and friends directly about what worried me. If you face any specific fear, it becomes far less scary in my opinion. Hope this helps, and if you would like to email me directly off list, please do not hesitate!
