Music Therapist Michael Richardson , will be presenting how music
has an immediate effect on the body, almost as effective as touching
someone. Learn how music can help or hinder your massage treatments
from an award winning therapist who has been helping his clients for
23 years with musical notes.
After graduation from Southern Methodist University in 1985 Michael
Richardson began his career developing a Music Therapy program for
the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. As one of the first Board
Certified Music Therapist's in Texas he created programs for Gulf
Pines Psychiatric Hospital, The Center for Hearing and Speech, and
The Villa de Matel. Michael came to MDAnderson in 1991 as a contract
employee and is currently a full-time staff member through MD
Anderson's Integrative Medicine's Place…of wellness. He provides
services throughout the hospital and is developing an internship
program.
Michael was the recipient of the 2005 "Citation for Excellence in
Ancillary Support" from the Division of Cancer Medicine, and is
featured in: Total Body "The Healing Journey"; Coping with
Cancer "Healing Through Music"; and Women & Cancer "Complementary &
Alternative Therapy".
