TRAINING OF TRAINERS PROGRAMME IN HIV/AIDS COUNSELLING:

20TH – 24TH JANUARY 2009

The Center for Psychological Counselling, Bangalore University is
offering a Five -day training programme for health care workers and
health service providers titled, "Training of Trainers Programme in
HIV/AIDS counselling from 20th – 24th January 2009.

Virtually no part of the world is untouched by HIV. Although its
impact is largest in African countries, other countries also are
concerned about the effects of HIV/AIDS. While recent scientific
efforts have resulted in a series of discoveries and advancements in
understanding and controlling the virus that causes AIDS, this
progress has had limited impact on the majority of HIV infected
people and populations living in developing countries. The figure
was confirmed to be 2.4 million in 2008. Statistics puts India
behind South Africa and Nigeria in terms of numbers living with HIV.

With the numbers of HIV/AIDS infected and affected increasing
medical science unable to cope. Intervention in checking the spread
of HIV needs to adopt a more psychoeducational approach, led by
trained health counsellors and social workers. Further, the social

be confronted as essential elements in all local and global efforts.
