Sensitization Program for Grass root Community Leaders:

                                                            World AIDS Day Poster Released.

 

            EMPOWER, a civil society organization working to prevent HIV/AIDS among the core population observed the World AIDS Day by conducting a sensitization program for grass root leaders such  corporation ward counselors , opinion leaders ,  political party  local leaders, community leaders , youth association leaders , film fans association leaders , merchant association leaders , women self help group federation leaders etc. The objective is to get their support in implementing HIV prevention project and enable the HIV prevention efforts as mass movement with community ownership .

            Mr. Sankar A., Executive Director, welcomed to gathering and spoke about the  HIV projects of  EMPOWER. Mr. Rajendran, District Program Officer of APAC-VHS explained the objectives of the program. Mr. APCV , Shanmugam , President ,Tuticorin District NGO Federation lauded the efforts of NGOs who are working with risk groups and have contributed  to the decline in prevalence. The worshipful Mayor Mrs. Kasturi Thangam   extolled the Role of NGOs in collaborating with government efforts to prevent HIV/AIDS in Tamilnadu and released of the World AIDS Poster on the Theme: Lead , Empower, Deliver. Mr. Joe Villavaryer , President , All India Chamber of Commerce and Industry , received the first copy and assured all support from the  private and industry sector for the prevention efforts of HIV.  Mr. Kamaraj, District Program Manager , TNSACS , spoke about the declining prevalence of HIV and about  the services of ICTCs. Mrs. Meera Shankar, Program Directors in her power point presentation spoke about the global , national , state and district prevalence , impact of the epidemic  and the role of grass root leaders in prevention and care of HIV. Later, Stephen , project coordinator proposed the vote of thanks .
