New Microscopy-based CD4/CD8 test: Affordable test launched
*********************
Dear Forum:
A new, simplified, microscopy-based CD4/CD8 test has been approved by the
FDA (under authority of Drug Controller General of India) for wide-scale use
as a diagnostic test. The ImmunoCount test is best suited to monitor ART at
the district and rural settings in developing countries. The validation
studies show that the test has good agreement with flowcytometry
(correlation coefficient r2=0.87) and the technique is now patented.
The test has fewer simple steps and takes 2hr:30min to complete. The
ImmunoCount CD4/CD8 test has a shelf life of 18 months. This test will fill
the unmet need of the field required for expansion of STRUCTURED
Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) in resource-limited settings in Asia, Africa,
and South America.
