AIDS has already orphaned 14 million children worldwide, a number that is
expected to exceed 25 million in less than six years. Unless decisive
action is taken in regions and countries, such as China and India, where
the epidemic is spiralling out of control, the lives and futures of their
children are at risk. Without a coordinated response, this generation of
children may face the staggering hardships currently experienced by
children in some countries in Africa, where more than 1 in 5 children will
be orphaned by 2010 and where more than 80 percent of children have lost
one or both parents to AIDS.

majority having been orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
Please join the Asia Society and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF for a discussion on
how individuals, international organizations, and governments are responding to
the challenges and needs presented by this growing population, and what more
must be done to keep their parents alive, ensure that they stay in school, l and
protect them from exploitation and abuse.
