Hi Dawn,
Welcome to the group. How are you able to communciate with your daughter? I
have had rsd in my left hand to my shoulder for nearly 2 years and also have a
deaf son. Since I'm right-handed I'm faring quite well...actually physical
therapy has helped a lot..but sometimes signing to my son is difficult because
as you know some signs require both hands, and arms. But yesterday I met a young
woman with dystonia who can't speak and uses a machine -- Light Talker, I think
it was called -- that you can type on and the words are displayed again on a
screen on the other side...sort of a double-sided TTY without the phone. This
might be something you and your daughter could use.
I never had the shots,,,nerve blocks...or any other procedure other than
occupational therapy, which I'm still receiving and still taking neurotyn. My
hand is mostly functional; still can't make a fist. OT said I would be a great
candidate for surgery to correct that but shouldn't because of the risk of
aggravating the rsd. I don't know about the SCI procedure you're considering but
you're wise to investigate because rsd does seem to complicate things....Linda
