A new report says, "smoking seems to protect against mouth sores, rosacea,
labial herpes simplex, pemphigus vulgaris, and dermatitis herpetiformis. "

Don't all rush out to buy cigarettes. Very weird report. I think whoever
thinks smoking helps rosacea should be reproved. This is silly and should
never have been reported. See the report yourself at this url:

Linda Sy's Zinc O cream that is SPF 20 and tinted does a great job at
concealing redness and protecting me from the sun.

I like dermablend but I know some people hate it. For me it's the only thing
that can really cover opaquely and it does have some spf coverage but I don't
recommend using it instead of sunblock.

So maybe a make up or something that works?

Your dermatologist may refer you to an ophthalmologist so you obviously
can save the visit to the derm. However, if the derm can treat the left
eye you save the visit to the ophthalmologist. Tough call, huh? My vote
is the direct appointment with the ophthalmologist.

My suggestion is to buy Dr. Latkany's book, The Dry Eye Remedy at this url:

I have tried many other mineral makeups, with bismuth and without. I simply LOVE
the coverage of the JI and the holding power it has. It covers my red nose so
that even my esthetician doesn't detect redness when I wear it.

I don't see bismuth listed as an ingredient for JI makeup.

I have tried a mineral makeup that did have bismuth and it made my nose itch.

It's all personal preference but I LOVE JI products.

Have you researched Illuminare? If you like liquid, you might like their makeup.

Some rosaceans carry around a commercial spray mist to help
when a rosacea flare up or flush comes along. I have listed a
few commercial spray mist applicators for your interest:

http://www.rosaceans.com/html/spraymists.html

Of course you could make your own mist applicator and have
it available whenever you need it.

Patti,

Welcome to the group and sorry you are having such a tough time. We
can all relate to the burning and pain, not to mention the frustration.
Rosacea can come back with a vengeance after being controlled for
quite some time. There is a wealth of information in my new book,
Rosacea 101 which is available at this url:

http://www.rosacea-101.com

You may browse through the posts and find a lot of suggestions
over the past six years. Immediate treatments is simply applying
cool water on your face using a mist application. For more info:

http://www.rosaceans.com/html/free.html

Hang in there and you will get the rosacea beast controlled again.

Hello!! I'm Pattie, 33 years old, and was diagnosed with this
condition when i was 21 years old. Unfortunately, I am in the midst of
the worst flare-up :-( I don't even know where to begin! I was
previously prescribed MetroGel (or MetroCream) and I find it is no
longer working for me..obviously!! I don't even want to leave the
house right now, it's horrible!!

I was wondering, however, I find that this most painful flareup
started (mildly, at first) RIGHT after I had my gallbladder removed at
the end of January this year....coincidence?

Any thoughts on that? And perhaps something i could do for some relief
at the moment?

Noreen,
A number of times you've mentioned using Jane Iredale line of makeup.
What would you say makes this better than bismuth oxycholride free
mineral makeup from other vendors? I was looking at the JI site and
seeing where they had other ingredients and was wondering how those
would benefit above using mineral makeup without those ingredients.

Here is the report:

1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D(3), the active form of vitamin D, is a major
regulator of the expression of the cationic antimicrobial peptide cathelicidin,
not only in monocytes but also in epidermal keratinocytes. The involvement
of cathelicidin in wound healing and skin diseases as diverse as psoriasis,
rosacea, and atopic dermatitis may create new opportunities for the use of
vitamin D in dermatology.

Welcome Veronica. You may want to consider reading my new book,
Rosacea 101 which will give you basic information on what you should
know and is a great place to begin learning. Many cleansing products
irritate rosacea, so be careful. Reading the past messages in this group
will also help.

Welcome to the group.

Rosacea is very frustrating.
I have just started Benzyl peroxide for my papulopustular rhinophyma and so far
it seems to be working.
this isn't for everyone but I'm seeing results and I'm thrilled.

also Jane Iredale mineral makeup does a wonderful job covering the redness so
that I can go out during the day and not be self conscious about my red nose.

Welcome and good luck! I was diagnosed with this, then the demodocosis... The
stuff that works best for me is Noritate and Elecon cream. I also get Kenalog
shots when it gets reallllyyyy bad. And some type of bacterial soap works well
too. I wish you all the best sweetie!

One suggestion is to take some warm/hot water and put a few drops of
Johnson's baby shampoo in the water and get some cotton balls and
dip them in the solution and apply them to your closed eyes. Do this
on a regular basis. Hot as you can handle it but obviously not too hot.
Then rinse with clean water.

Next: Read Dr. Latkany's 'The Dry Eye Remedy" at this url:

http://www.rosaceans.com/html/books.html

Scroll down to the third book.

Finally, read my chapter on Ocular Rosacea in my new book:

Rosacea 101

Thanks, LT.
I haven't read the book nor have I heard of it before or read any
reviews. Getting reviews on books is not easy. Believe me I have
tried to get reviews for my book and it is like pulling teeth. I did
manage to get a few reviews for my book which I am very happy
about. I just keep up with what is going on the world of rosacea
and stumbled upon Lucy Galvin's website, so I put her ebook on
the list of publications for rosacea on my rosaceans web site. The
list has grown since I began this page and there is now an impressive
list of rosacea publications available now. It used to be quite small.
However, rosacea is now more widely known than ten years ago.
I am sure we will eventually hear about Lucy Givens ebook and
what it is about and someone will no doubt write a review.
