Hi Brandon,
Sounds like the beer isn't too big a problem right now. You are lucky in
that--but at least I
can splurge every once in a while without too much problem. I wonder if the
humidity,
picking up pollution in the air, might be the culprit? I do find that when I
visit New York
City in the summer, when the humidity is high, I have more problems with my
face, even if
it isn't too hot. I always find my face much dirtier at the end of the day
there, so maybe the
combination of stuff in the air with the humidity is a cluprit. Just a thought.
Tiberius is north of Tel Aviv in Israel. We were there in July, before all the
bombings (thank
goodness) and I liked the beer I had. I don't think I've seen it for sale around
D.C. But with
all the different cuisines around, there is no shortage of great beer from
overseas.
Good luck with your rosacea!
Pam in DC
Perhaps it is not just the humidity in the plant but some chemicals that are
floating around in the air causing you to flare up.
Do you wear a moisturizer or sunscreen to work? Perhaps using one of these might
help act as a barrier against whatever is irritating your face there.
You may want to try the rosacea diet and see if that helps. Beer would be on the
list of drinks to eliminate.
Is finding a new job a possibility?
Perhaps your derm needs to try a new med for you.

Dear Pam:
Where is Tiberius? Very interesting!
I am getting off topic a bit. I love drinking imported beer from Mexico,
Germany, Singapore and other places. No, it does not make my face bright red or
bring heat to my face. That is why I think the humidity in the plant where I
work is doing it because while I am working my face will itch and I feel the
heat then. Also, I normally drink beer on the weekends. I do not drink it during
the week because I get off too late from work. Moreover, I am on blood pressure
medication and I take that as soon as I get home from work and I do not want to
take that and then drink a beer right on top of it. Probably would not be a good
idea.
Very Sincerely,
Brandon Harris

This is a total trigger for me. Wine moreso than champagne! Also, most clear
liquors like rum, but not dark rum. Vodka doesn't trigger it as bad. But, this
is definitely something that triggers it.

Dear All:
Hello and Good Early Morning to you all! I have a question for you and I was
wondering if you could be of assistance to me please? Thank you.
I just started working in a box manufacturing facility three weeks ago. I
live in southern Indiana and the heat and humidity this time of the year can be
very unbearable. My face was cleared up before I started working there. Now, my
face is broke out and there are a couple of large bumps on my face. I am
wondering if the heat and humidity in the plant might be causing it and what can
I do about it?
I wash my face morning and night with Exuviance and I apply Elidel cream to
my face. What else can I do to get my complexion to clear up?
Also, I might drink a few beers over the weekend. Would beer cause a reaction
to my rosacea? I would not think it would because of all the water and grain it
is made from.
Please send me any information regarding this to me at my e-mail address
below. This will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much and I hope that
you have a pleasant good morning.
Very Sincerely,
Brandon Harris

I have found for myself that the "natural" stuff can actually make mine worse.
Although Aubrey does make a rosa mosqueta soap that is gentle on my face.
generally speaking soap isn't a great thing to use to cleanse the skin, not the

Hang in there and you will learn alot from the group. For me, the saving

Altho it looks like I will need another soon.

Patty,
So sorry to hear of your experience.
It's unfortunate that you didn't return to the docs office right away so that
they could see what was happening. At that point you could have gotten the doc
involved.
I would return to the docs office ASAP, even if they say they don't have an
appointment I would show up. So the doc and the technicians can see what your
face looks like. If your face has now cleared up, this might be pointless but
maybe not. If you are there in person and speak to the office manager or the
doc, you may be able to get a free treatment, can't hurt to ask.
I probably would not want that particular technician to do my treatment again.
Are these nurses giving the treatments?

You should use the Finacea many weeks before deciding if it works or not. May
take 4 or more to notice a difference.
What products are you using for your daily skincare?
As you will learn after being on this board for a while, rosacea is difficult to
deal with. You may need to try different meds before finding one that works.

Hi all,
I have had rosacea for a very long time, and tried many different
things. Originally I was diagnosed as having lupus, and the doctor
attributed my "rash" to lupus and said that with treatment, it would
go away. It didn't go away with medication for lupus. And over the
years (15 since lupus diagnosis) the rash has grown. A few years
ago, I had a medication diagnosed by a derm's pa, a lotion. It
turned out to contain steroids, and it caused a serious flare on my
skin. At that time I was having flares on a very regular basis; I
could not take any temperatures higher than about 68 degrees without
having a flare! Even someone sitting next to me would cause me to
flare!
Anyhow, I didn't use the lotion more than twice before researching
it and finding out it was one of the worst things to use on
Rosacea. So back to the drawing board and trying to find something
that would help. I am tired of always using makeup to try to cover
up the rosacea and look semi-normal.
I did some research on photofacials, and read Dr. Geoffrey Nase's
book on Beating Rosacea. I was very interested in the photofacial
information, and read up on Dr. Bitter. One day in doing research
on the internet, I found a listing of doctors who had been trained
by Dr. Bitter. I found a doctor living in my state and went to him
to see about getting photofacials.
To make a long story shorter, I have had four treatments. The first
three were normal, I had a little swelling, but I could definitely
see improvement in the reduction of color in my face! Hooray!
Although I really hated spending that much money on my face, I
figured I was worth it.
Last week, Thursday, I had my 4th treatment. Things started off
badly. The gal that put the numbing gel on my face didn't put it on
thickly enough and the first pass was VERY painful. The technician
(the doctor doesn't do it himself) stopped the treatment, put more
gel on my face and told the first girl to put it on more thickly
from now on. Then she finished the treatment with two more passes.
So my face was bright red, as usual, after the treatment, and I
drove about an hour afterwards to visit my son on my way home, which
is about 3 hrs away from the doctor. Upon arrival at my son's, my
left cheek (the most painful during the first pass) was quite
swollen, and I had blisters. I called the doctor's office, spoke to
the technician and she said she would talk to the doctor. She
called me back, told me they would call in a prescription for
prednisone for the swelling, and that I should ice my face, and she
spent quite a bit of time talking to me about treatment.
So by the time I arrived home, I was feeling quite upset. I looked
like I had mumps, I had several blisters, and I had spent a lot of
money to look like that! What irony!
But the worst is yet to come. Friday evening I noticed my right
cheek, which looked great!!! started to burn. Like a flare was
starting. I had a difficult time getting to sleep that night, and
my cheeks, both of them, flared all day Saturday. I finally
realized it was probably the prednisone doing it. I called the
technician and she agreed that was probably what was happening when
I explained my previous reaction to a steroid. So she said to quit
taking it, and when could I come in so they could take a look at me?
Ok. Long story. I apologize. What I want to know is, do I ask for
a free treatment, or my money back, or give up, or keep going back?
Basically, I'm a wuss. I'm not assertive, but I'm really feeling
like I want the doctor to show some feeling here. I'm not looking
to sue or anything, but I didn't ask for the bad results.
I would like your feedback, and thanks for letting me rant. I know
the people on this list are the ones that would most understand how
I feel. My husband isn't too helpful, as he just says, "You look
fine to me." That's not helpful. Going to work today without make-
up was just fun. "Oh, you have such red cheeks? Are you ok?" So I
had to explain to everyone that this is what I look like normally
without any makeup on. Fun, fun.
Thanks again.
Patty
I have recently been dx wtih Rosacea, but I am 52!
The dermatologist said I have rosacea and the malar rash (I have lupus).
I don't get 'bumps' really. I get red spots that do sometimes fill with clear
pus.
This sounds awful, and it is a problem. Any ideas?
I also still seem to have your basic acne, with blackheads and large pores...
I am already on a no-sugar diet...
The dermatologist prescribed azelaic acid (Finacea) as a cream to use twice a
day. That
seems to do nothing for me.
Aimee,
have you tried mineral makeup? there are many high quality mineral makeups that
might work for you. Jane Iredale is one.

Hi Doug and Kelly
I am really happy that Linda Sy Zinco works for you! I just wish it did for
me. When I got the sample package, I thought it would, but then when I ordered
a larger tube of it, I found it didn't blend well on my skin, didn't protect and
dried my skin. I won't order it again.
Just goes to show that everyone is different ..... please keep that in mind
Kelly. It really is a trial and error process that we all have to go through,
I'm afraid.
Surely tho, do not give up. I had 8 IPL treatments and never got satisfactory
results. Only when I had 2 Cutera CoolGlide Excel Laser treatments did I notice
a big difference.
There again, what worked for Doug didn't work for me. I think that I am more
sensitive then most to products because I can't tolerate fragrances of any
kind...... that includes laundry and cleaning products let alone face creams and
shampoos.
Carry on the good fight y'all :)

I am 37 year old guy and I have had rosacea for 2 years. At first, I was a
complete recluse who had slipped into depression. Prior to rosacea I was a
confident, outgoing attorney; then, I lost the ability to speak in public. I
tried so many prescribed and non-prescribed treatments looking for some
relief; howeverd, I initially had little luck. But, I did not stop trying and I
eventually found things that gave me relief. The relief being about 50%
dissipation of redness, 80% dissipation in burning, stinging, and itching. Here
is what I have done, and will continue to do:
1) I had four IPL laser treatments, which were done by a dermatologist who
has a lot of experience with the disease and IPL. This drastically reduced
redness and swelling in my nose.
2) I use "z-cream" every night before bed. It causes dryness at first, but
after four months this is diminishing.
3) Everyday I use Linda Sy ZincO cream SPF 20. Kelly, this is a godsend!
Linda Sy is a derm in California who formulated this product for people with
rosacea. It is tinted brown and does an adequate job of aiding in the
blending of skin tone. In addition, it had done an excellent job at protecting
me
from flare-ups from the sun and wind.
Do a google search for z-cream and Linda Sy.
Advice:
1) Try these products and procedurs. Give them a little time, e.g., three
months with the Z-cream.
2) Don't stop exercising, which is a great reliever of stress.
3) Don't give up! I think that one day dermatologists and the medical
field will take this disease as seriously as they should and devote more time
and
money to research.
Good luck,
Doug

complete recluse who had slipped into depression. Prior to rosacea I was a
confident, outgoing attorney; then, I lost the ability to speak in public. I
tried so many prescribed and non-prescribed treatments looking for some
relief; howeverd, I initially had little luck. But, I did not stop trying and
I
eventually found things that gave me relief.
Good luck,
Doug

I have read rosacea is on the rise, I wonder why it
is?? the ozone? chemicals? anti-aging procedures?
Im thinking anti-aging procedures have alot to do with
it.

Kelly,
I just graduated Esthetics school. I also am thinking of specializing in acne
and rosacea. With personal experience with it the clients really appreciate any
info being a fellow sufferer.
Go for it. Rosacea is on the rise, need more people who specialize in this and
acne.
Get a good relationship going with a dermatologist to get referrals and take
classes at IDI and carry Dermalogice. There are other nice products out there as
well.
Welcome to the world of beauty.

I want to thank everyone who responded to my post. I am glad to
meet people (even if it is via the internet) that know how much it
sucks to have a red face. None of my friends seem to understand how
frustrating it is. They just give me lipservice to make me feel
better, like "it just looks like you got some sun." I mean, I
understand not wanting to hurt my feelings, but when I need a
serious answer, its annoying to hear stuff like that.
Right now, the Murad and Dermatologica stuff that I am using is
working, along with the vitamins B and fish oils. Working -
meaning, my face is less red, doesnt look like I have been baking in
the sun. But it is still red. Who knows if I will have sustained
success with it, but I will use as long as it is kinda working.
I am a coffe drinker and I have no idea how I would give that up. I
work full time and go to school 17 hours a week. I dont have time
for the horrible headaches I would get if I quit coffee. This week
I switched to iced coffee in the AM instead of hot. I think that is
helping a little, too.
I have dyed my hair a cool medium brown. This could also be why my
face looks less red, too. I have toned down the warmness of my hair
so that I dont have warm tones on both my face and hair. That might
be a trick for those of you will to dye your hair..... a bit
drastic, but a tip nonetheless.
Finally, I wanted to mention that this experience has kind of helped
me figure some things out in my life. As I have mentioned in my
posts, I am a hairstylist. I love my job. I got my undergrad
degree in business and then went back to school for cosmetology.
And now, I am working on my MBA in hopes to prepare myself to open
my own salon. So... recently I have been thinking about my salon
and how it can differentiate itself from others. I think I might
cater to clients with rosacea and other skin ailments. I have
always only done hair, but I am licenced for skin care also. I
would need to take a few refresher classes in skin care. And maybe
talk to a few dermatologists to that I can learn more about the
disease. But I was thinking about offering facials that may help
with symptoms they are experiencing. Of course I am not trying to
treat anyone, that is a doctors job, but I can help them in
conjunction with their regular dermy with products that are safe to
them. I can also, help with hair color and cuts that make the
clients overall look be a little less "red." I can't cure rosacea,
but I can help people look better. That is what I love about my
job - making people feel good about themselves. I can't think of
anything else I'd rather do!
So........... if anyone lives in the Columbus Ohio area.... look for
me in a few years!!!
Thanks guys, I will keep in touch and also, I will keep you abreast
of any new products or beauty tips that I come across!
:)
