Thanks for the review, Mary. It is good to hear rosacea being discussed on
TV but it sounds as though this particular show just brushed the surface. Oh
well, at least a beginning.

Hi everyone

I'm not sure if this is ground breaking news LOL but my Dad
(Pharmacist) faxed me some info he received from Sigma (Arrow
Pharmaceuticals) about a new topical called Zindaclin, which has the
working ingredient of Clindamycin (topical antibiotic).

I don't think this has been available in Australia before? I have read
about our USA members using this but not in Australia. I may be wrong
about this but thought I would mention it anyway.

Their web site doesn't have it listed yet but doing a Google search, I
found the the details (to save me lots of typing!):

http://www.epitan.com.au/IRM/content/products_products_zindaclin.htm

"Zindaclin is a gel containing 1% clindamycin. Topical antibiotics are
commonly used to treat mild inflammatory acne, often in combination.
In addition to Zindaclin there are two topical antibiotics available
in Australia."

It's only available via prescription from your doc.

It's aimed at more the p&p Rosacea but of course doesn't specifically
mention Rosacea. The fax says "Indicated in the treatment of acne
vulgaris, particularly forms in which comedones, papules and pustules
predominate."

Anyone from the USA who uses topical Clindamycin who can share their
experiences with this gel?

Thought this might be useful info.

Thanks for your reply. It has cheered me up as rosacea, from what I have read
sounds so hard to deal with. i will go back to my GP. Unfortunately you have to
wait so long for an appointment to see a specialist. Hopefully before my
appointment comes through the symptoms will have gone.

the only way to be absolutely sure. I can tell you
that dryness and scalyness is not, from my
understanding, of itself a sign of rosacea and that to
my mind what you describe sounds more like an allergic

do have rosacea or even a combination of the two.
There are many various skin conditions and I recommend
you go to a dermatologist and get a qualified opinion.

Hi Bali,

Your situation sounds just awful but as I just said to
another poster we rosacea sufferers are really very
limited in our ability to comment on anothers
condition -- though we have a certain level of
knowledge about rosacea we don't necessarily have
knowledge of the other condtions that might similarly
present. I have heard of some very severe cases of
rosacea but none that sound quite like yours.
Certainly drugs, including steriods, can trigger
rosacea, and though most people do seem to have signs
of pre-rosacea before developing rosacea proper, I
would guess that it's possible to have no signs and
then go straight into severe rosacea. That said, your
case does sound very extreme. If I were you I would go
to another derm or two for second and third opinions.

Cheers, B

I have has several occasions when I have had sore red patches on my
cheeks often triggered by strawberries and have treated with
hydrocortisone. Recently with apparently no trigger I develpoed a
really red face with burning and dryness. GP said it was not rosacea
because it was dry and prescribed diprobase and mild steroid cream.
The condition got worse so I went back to doctors, saw another GP who
said it had got infected prescribed oxytetracycline and atarax to stop
itching. The next morning I looked like elephant man. My eyelids had
swelled and swelling on my face was worse. However I persevered with
anti-biotics and it is a little better. Not so sore or red. The doctor
said not to let water on to skin and not to put cream on so my skin is
very dry and scaly. I am scared to put anything on my skin can you
reccommend anything and advise what I should do now to stop the
condition getting worse.

Hello

When you said you only got some relief when you use a cool washcloth reminded
me of myself a year ago. I'm by no means cured, as there is none, but have you
considered IPL? That was the only thing that brought me any kind of relief .

I'm in the stage right now too, where my skin is dry but anything I use
aggravates it. So I listen to my skin, and i don't use anything. Humidifier in
the room at night helps alot. I also use Vichy spray mineral water. We have
alot of chlorine in our water and so I mist with Vichy. Avene also has one on
the market. More expensive and no better then Vichy.

I also use Rosacure cream although right now my skin is rejecting it too. I
have had my last IPL on the 15th of last month so I am still healing from that.
When my face used to flare as bad as yours, I would sit in front of a fan or
even get in the car with air conditioner on.

I tried Digestive Enzymes for digestion and I don't know if it helped or not.
Nothing really stands out if it did lol. Something you might want to think
about.

I don't know if you have the acne component with your rosacea. I do not. I
have the stubborn redness, and burning. Yes, I still have to watch triggers and
there are days when I flare, but no where near as bad as I was and mostly when I
throw caution to the wind and ignore my known triggers.

That's all I can think of at the moment, but I'm sure there will be other
great suggestions to your post from others in the group.

Try to avoid stress, even if you have to get a prescription for that. I have
anti anxiety pills on hand, but thankfully I can't remember when I took my last
one.

Oh yes, another thing you might want to try is an antihistamine. My druggist
suggested Allegra and I have tried it and Claritin. Allegra it is , for me.
   Keep us posted please
   Aimee

Lynn Hoskins <lhoskins@...> wrote:
Hi, I've been reading through posts (at least 200) but haven't
found anything to help my skin problems. Maybe someone's
lurking on the list who can help.

I'm one of those who cannot use the steroid cream or antibiotics
that are typically prescribed by dermatologists for Rosacea. My
body is too sensitive - the side effects are pretty severe. I'm
working with a classical homeopath to try and "shift" the energy
that's causing my skin condition. But this takes time.

In the meantime, my face burns pretty much all the time. The
products that help others, like B. Kamins, Borlind sensitive skin,
etc. just make the burning worse. Even the most mild
moisturizers burn and make my face bright red. My skin is so dry
that it's sore and flakey. I have splotches of red all over, including
the delicate tissue that's right under my eyes. It's like I've been
badly sunburned, but keep sitting out in the sun, so it's sunburn
upon sunburn upon sunburn. It seems like the only relief I get is
when I lie down and put a cool wash cloth over my face - at least
I get a couple minutes away from the burning. My skin actually
feels better when I don't put anything at all on it, only the dryness
gets worse. I've had sensitive skin my whole life, but it wasn't
until right after my hysterectomy that full-blown Rosacea set in.

I've been to three different dermatologists, but as my luck would
have it they know nothing about soothing Rosacea skin - they
just hand me a prescription for Metrogel and walk out of the
room.

There are a couple things that are helping a little. One is
Self-Heal cream made by Flower Essences Society. The other is
pure Emu oil. The oil is irritating when I first apply it, but then it
feels a bit better.

I have a lot of digestive problems, but they're getting better. I
know there's a link. I don't consume any of the Rosacea triggers,
except for red meat - my body needs this because of my iron
deficiency (and, you guessed it, I can't take iron supplements.)

I am ALL EARS. Please tell me what works for you. Vitamin E
cream? Olive oil cream? I will try anything that's all natural.

Thank you for listening,
Lynn

Over on the other group there is a discussion on HRT/bioidentical
hormones for those who have a hormone component. Since your flare
came with a hysterectomy that discission may be worth a check out -

http://forum.rosaceagroup.org/viewtopic.php?p=21828#21828

If you can't tolerate anything topical you can try diet and
vitamines.

For a start try no sugar/very low carb for a couple weeks (I get
good results from South Beach)

If you check out this page

http://rosacea-research.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

you will find information organized by this group on different areas
to try and work on.

I find keeping my allergies under control and taking oral anti
inflamatories (singulair and boswellia) a big help. I also get good
results with Alpha Lipoic Acid (300 MG per day).

I must mention however that I am one that must do IPL to stay
reasonably in control.

Only try one thing at a time. Otherwise you will never know what is
helping and what is hurting.

I can see where it would be disappointing. I surmise that the foundation
info wasn't given out because our reactions to any given foundations vary
so widely.

What is laser resurfacing? Is it like a peel, only with lasers?

Oh yeah, I hear that about not wearing pink. Without my makeup I cannot
wear pink, red, or similar colors because then my face looks even redder
than it actually is. In my pre-rosacea days, I had no trouble wearing
either color. ;-)

Thank you for listening,
Lynn

Forgot to add, the doctor also did hyaluronic acid injections in her acne
scars to help them be less noticeable.

I watched the show. The lady appeared to have had rosacea for around 20
years and said she had not done much about it. I would say it was severe
rosacea with a severe acne component as well. She got it in her mid-20s
after having her children, and is now 45.

They sent her to have laser resurfacing. The doctor called it "acne
rosacea" --- nowhere in the entire program did they mention the flushing
component of rosacea, only the acne component. After the laser resurfacing
they sent her to a makeup artist who did a very good job covering up the
rosacea. He used a wedge sponge and some form of oil-free foundation.
However, he did not go into specifics on the type of foundation, powder, or
anything else. He said he was going to keep her eye and lip makeup muted so
as to not draw attention to her rosacea.

They colored her hair and whitened and capped her teeth. As far as clothes
go, they suggested not to wear pinks and primarily gave her brown and black
tops to wear.

I will say that she looked much better after the makeover, but was very
disappointed with the lack of knowledge and lack of focus on the rosacea
itself. It was not explained very well.

Hope this helps.

Mary

I've had good luck buying makeup brushes from Essential Beauty Supplies
at:

http://www.essentialbeautysupplies.com/

In their description of their brushes, they say what each brush is made
of. I have the Luscious Kabuki and it's a very soft squirrel/goat
blend. I've also heard people liking the Deluxe Kabuki and the Ultimate
Buffer, which are both goat. If you have an Ulta or a Trade Secret near
you, they carry the Japonesque brushes as well as other brands.

Hope that helps!

I use Bare Minerals too. I had to practice with it a few times so I didn't put
it on
too heavy. To conceal blemishes and broken blood vessels/spider veins I
find that Bisque Multi-Tasking makeup from Bare Escentuals works very well.

I've just been diagnosed with Rosacea, but I think I've had it a few years. I
started using MetroGel last weekend. It seems to been working, but today I
noticed my skin looks very dry.

I'm a big fan of Aubrey's products, however I've tried the blue-green algae
cleanser, and it was way too drying for my skin. This product might be good for
oily or acne-prone skin, but i defniitely dont recommend it for dry skin.
Instead I use Aubrey's Sea Buckthorn Cleaning Cream, which is more suitable for
my skin.

lirpakooz <lirpakooz@...> wrote: My hubby has rosacea and I have adult

I read about the healing qualities in Grape Seed Extract, Evening
Primrose Oil, Aloe Vera and Blue Green Algae.

The Aubrey Cleanser (below) has all of those in it plus more, so I
bought it hoping for some results. Well, it's just awesome! I would
highly recommend this product to anyone looking for healing. I bought
mine in our local natural food store. We use it in the morning and at
night. My blemishes aren't all gone, but greatly reduced! My husband
puffy, scaling, and angry red cheeks are now smooth and calm. He
loves this stuff too!

Everyone's body chemistry is different, so I don't know if it will
work for you, but it works for us, so maybe you'd be willing to give
it a try yourself! I hope it works for you too!

Aubrey Organics Blue Green Algae Facial Cleansing Lotion

I am going to attempt to put an image of the product into the "Photo"

it in the store.

Earlier this week, I went to the dermatologist for a followup on some
pre-cancer spots. My original dermatologist left the practice so I
saw a different one. He asked me if the other doc had told me that I
have rosacea. It was news to me! I didn't even realize it! How
frequently does that happen? I guess I'm in denial because I don't
really believe him.
I had not noticed any changes in my skin appearance. I've
had "flushing" episodes for several years but I thought they were hot
flashes.
Does it sound like I really have Rosacea?
Another question: how do I determine my "triggers"? I haven't a clue
at this point.
Any advice would be appreciated!

until 3 IPL's? I am a bit scared that this won't work for me at all!

I found the website, Laura, but it doesn't appear to have the complete
broadcast -- maybe you will find a way to access it:

Subject: [rosacea] More on EGF

You might wonder if EGF induces angiogenesis since it is a growth
factor. It does not. Here are some details from post# 80907 before I
tried it:

....I asked her how she knew EGF did not cause angiogenesis. My skin
is doing well, so now I'd like to thicken it...so how do I know EGF
won't cause a problem? (FYI - She is not trying to sell it to me, she
uses it and knows of it as a skin care consultant) She answered:

"I'd read about it before, and shared anecdotal experiences with
others who have used EGF -- doing a google search, most research
focuses on wound healing and cancer -- but the initial results are
interesting -- EGF plays a role in regulating angiogenesis as far as
on the skin --

'"Some of these factors act directly on the cells, such as VEGF, FGF
and thymosin b4, whereas others, such as PGE2, EGF, TGFb and TNFa,
regulate the inflammatory phase of wound healing and may not directly
affect angiogenesis."'

'"EGF has been used in many wound model systems with considerable
success in animals. Increased formation of healing tissue induced by
EGF has been observed in the perforated mesentary of rats but it is
not likely that the mechanism involved angiogenesis directly."'

There are more links, but from what I gather, EGF plays an important
role in wound healing. Part of wound healing involves angiogenesis,
providing new blood flow to the tissues. EGF does not provide this
function; fibroblast growth factor (FGF) is probably most responsible
for providing angiogenesis."

Have a wonderful day!

Hi All:
Did anyone see the half-hour show Friday night on TV on the TLC network at
7 pm? (I'm in Oregon, so don't know where else it might have been shown and
at what times.) It featured a woman with rosacea who had a makeover,
including some form of "skin resurfacing". Unfortunately, by the time I saw
the
word "rosacea" in the TV guide and ran to turn it on, I wasn't able to catch it
all. Curious to know what you thought of it if you saw it all.

My two days on wellbutron put me into the 'severe' category as well.

You might be OK with the lowest dose, but I wouldn't try taking the maximum.
