It is time to start researching Oil of Oregano for rosacea
I have been following Oil of Oregano for over two years now as a
treatment for rosacea. I have been highly skeptical. A few
anecdotal reports and one or two naturopaths do not make this
information more credible, but intriguing.
I have recently followed 6 rosacea sufferers who I have known for
many years. They have tried every treatment under the sun with
minimal success. Two of them had moderate rhinopyma, and the other
four had vascular rosacea with papules and pustules. They decided
to try the oil of oregano. Within 30 days, the new photos they sent
me (undoctored and without makeup) where jaw dropping. Both
rhinopyma sufferers had nearly pale noses with swelling decreased by
over 50% and the other four showed excellent clearance of vascular
and papulopustular symptoms. It was not a cure, but it really
improved symptoms in patients who have been unresponsive to every
known treatment.
Oregano oil has been tested against a variety of microorganisms
[infections] and is found to exert a high degree of anti-fungal,
anti-parasitic, anti-viral and antibacterial actions. Oregano is
such a potent anti fungal agent that it is capable of destroying
even resistant fungal forms, such as the mutated fungi which result
from antibiotic therapy. Oil of Oregano also has strong anti-
inflammatory actions against neutrophils which wreak havoc against
rosacea sufferers (both vascular and papulopustular form). The
herbal PDR also encourages patients to try this product – both oral
and topical. The only drawback is a strong bite to the oil.

Geoffrey

I'm so glad you brought this up Dr. Nase because I have had
good success using oil of Oregano in the past. I've posted a bit
on this before but I'll recap here.
I initially tried the oral form to help with seb derm. I was taking
upwards of 1,000 mg a day. It definitely helped as the flaking
went down and overall rednes subsided.
Just for kicks I decided to try it topically and oh, does it burn! The
burn doesn't last long but it's enough to turn me red which I'm
not sure how good that is. So now whenever I use it topically, I
moisterize first and then apply it to reduce the sting. It definitely
helps with clearing things up.
I wouldn't say I've had dramatic results though as a prescription
anti-fungal did a much better job at putting a dent in the seb
derm. I also didn't really know what I was doing so maybe I was
using the wrong doasage/application.
I do think it is a promising treatment option and I've heard it is
quite safe. Do you know if it can be taken while on Biaxin?

While I certainly am still skeptical, the Herbal PDR indicates that
the best way to use it is sublingually (under the tongue) mixed with
virgin olive oil. 5 to 10 drops twice a day. Please dont expect a
miracle, but we should not close our doors on naturopathic products
that cannot hurt you.
As a side note, the Dermatology Times editor who lets me publish in
this journal was waiting to schedule a laser appointment for her
fiancee for the red swollen nose. She came across oil of oregano,
tried it for a few weeks and now her husband cancelled his laser
appoinment because of the improvement.

Geoffrey

I have tried Oil of Oregano topical about 6 months ago. It didnt' do a thing in
my case, nor did it have a ' bite' . I purchased it at the Naturopath that I go
to.

Hello Aimee,
I dont expect this oil to help many rosacea sufferers, but it may
help a few. This is especially important to those who really want to
go the naturopathic route. All 6 people that reported to me said it
had a bite or very bitter taste when swallowed (not applied
topically like you tried above). This is why the Herbal PDR highly
recommended adding olive oil to it. This seems harmless enough to
try on some cases. Thanks for the feedback -- that was what the
post was about.....to see if there was any sort of trend.
Regards,
Geoffrey
