Hi, I'm new to the group. I recently had a consultation with Dr.
Bitter Sr., and am thinking of ipl treatments (have to save up $). I
will have to ask him more questions, but I'm trying to research this
as much as possible. I want to find out about any studies done related
to this treatment. I'm concerned about long term negative affects,
cancer risk, etc. Thanks for any info or resources you know of.

Many of us have these feelings also. Every animal has a fight or
flight tendancy that must be dealt with all your life. They are
stongest when we are at our weakest. As Winston Churchill said "the
night makes cowards of us all". Don't let a weak moment influence
your decision. Also depression is a serious sickness thats seems as
if your carring a 700 lb weight on your shoulders. Many of us have
used anti-depressent medication at one time or another. It does work
and will help you to not worry about what others think of you. I urge
you to fight the monster and not give in to it. As for being normal,
their are very few people who truly are, many people have diseases
that you or no one else is aware of. Seek medical help if these
feeling persist, and don't give in to the temptation, remember we all
have these thoughts but we also know they will pass if given time.
Now go fight the fight, and never, ever, surrender!

I have taken moxon for about one year, and I'm very happy with the
results. It definitely has reduced my neural flushing, and I'm not
experiencing any side effects. It has not made any difference however
in permanent redness, burning and stinging and dealing with heat.
Clonidine may be better at reducing redness, burning, stinging,
dealing with heat. Does anyone know? I like to hear from those taking
clonidine.

thank you so much!

Mexoryl has added components. Several of the posters felt that Mexoryl had
too many additives to be really helpful for irritated, rosacea type skin.

Thank you all for responding so strongly to my request for feedback about
Mexoryl type sunscreens.

Although I generally use (and like Neutrogena for sensitive skin) Much
titanium and zinc dioxide, it is oily and greasy, and gave me only only
whitehead

Matija thanks for remaining so loyal to the group and contributing so much
useful information. Shall pursue the links you posted.

Thanks to the many Canadians who responded, too.

Hello Jen,
I have a background in nutrition and herbalism as well as a lot of
personal experience with the supplements you mentioned. Here are a
few tidbits of information to help you. As you know, with rosacea
everyone is different and you will have to experiment with what works
for you personally.

In general, however I think one of the single most important
supplements to take is zinc (take in a chelated or zinc citrate form
for best absorption). Zinc is a top choice for several reasons: it
aids in cell regrowth/regeneration, it balances the sebaceous glands
(i.e. regulates oil production), it is antimicrobial, and antioxidant
in nature, etc. Many women, especially those who are vegetarian or
eat little meat, are often lacking in zinc. A 25 - 50 mg daily
dosage is considered safe (make sure to check your other
supplements , e.g. multivitamins, for zinc and add up total so that
you do not exceed 50-75 mg per day max).

Vitamin C in the Ester C formulation is also generally considered to
be a top notch choice for rosacea. The general recommended dosage is
3000-5000mg per day. Start out with one capsule and work your way up
gradually to see how much you tolerate and/or need. In my own
personal experience (believe it or not!), I have found that for my
body, LESS is MORE. That is, just one Ester C capsule (600 mg per
day only) really helps my flushing but more does not. Experiment to
see what dosage you need.

Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids are also indicated in skin disorders. Flax
seed and fish oils are Omega 3, while Evening Primrose Oil provides
Omega 6. Flax seed oil (as I mentioned in a previous post) has
received a lot of publicity and is a great oil; however it has shown
limitations in anti-inflammatory pathways in the body. That is, in
order to exert an anti-inflammatory effect flax seed oil must go
through a multi-step conversion process. Many people do not have the
required enzymes, etc. for this conversion and so less than 5% of the
ingested flax seed ever makes it through this process. Flax seed oil
can also trigger flushing in some individuals (such as ME!!!!) as it
is relatively high in salicylate content and if you flush to high
salicylate foods you may react to flax seed oil (the ground seeds are
much lower in salicylates and you may not react to them). If you
take flax seed oil and don't notice a difference, or think it may be
worse, stop and start it again to assess the changes, if any, on your
skin.
Fish Oils are already in a form that the body can use immediately in
anti-inflammatory pathways. Seek out a company that has high
standards for testing of the fish oils for toxins and purity.
The "Nordic Naturals" brand is regarded as top notch in this category.
(You may need to check for this brand at speciality natural health
stores or natural pharmacies.)

B-complex vitamins are often mentioned in rosacea treatment. I found
it made no difference for me. YOu will have to assess your reaction
to them by trying yourself.

I hope some of this info helps you in your decisions regarding
supplements.
Best wishes,
Shelley

Metrogel seems to be readily available in Canada. It costs about $60
Cdn including the dispensing fee. These vary, with WalMart being the
least expensive. Not sure of the restrictions, but I assume that as

I tried moxonidine for a period of around 6 months. It may have been
moderately effective (difficult to tell to be honest) but for me the
side-effects were worse than the flushing: Tiredness, spaced-out
feeling, headaches.

There has also been a scare about Moxonidine's safety, which I think

All the red spots on my face are not actual bumps. Feeling my skin,
it is completely smooth. But I keep getting red spots that are not
bumps that come and go. Does anyone else get this and if so, does
this still classify as rosacea. Thanks.

I've been using the Linda Sy Vita-Oil for about two weeks now and it's the first
product that has made a serious dent in the dermatitis I have on top of rosacea.
I've had no breakouts and it has not made the rosacea flare-up more than it
normally is. It's also almost eliminated the constant itching I had on the
forehead/eyebrow area. It was literally like sandpaper at times on my forehead
and it's starting to show an improvement. I've been able to eliminate using
Elidel for dermatitis flare-ups.

I'm using Beauty Naturally Rosacea Moisturizing Cream on top of the oil. I've
only been using the cream for a short time, so I'm not sure how it will work
long-term. But so far, so good! I've completely stopped the Metrolotion, so I'll
see what happens. Metro seems to be too irritating. You can get a free sample of
the cream at beautynaturally.com . They also have a facewash, but I haven't
tried it because I'm happy with Zia.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! My big floppy hats have been getting a
good workout :-)

Michelle

which is a great source of information). He mentions three of

Hang in there.

Life seems worse than you could ever imagine at the minute, and I hear
how hard it is for you. I can understand your feelings, they are
normal. You are having to put up with so much and it sounds like it has
been really hard. I have felt the same way. Who knows, it seems like
there are a lot of people researching this and with our support maybe
something will happen.
But until then remember no matter what you a human being, and a special
one at that. Trust me... things will seem better soon...that is for
certain... and you have had the strength to get this far.... you just
have to hold on. So keep in mind what a strong wonderful person you
are.

Also, does having spider veins necessarily imply that I have rosacea.

Assessment of the skin photoprotective capacities of an organo-
mineral broad-spectrum sunblock on two ex vivo skin models
Christelle Gélis1,2, Stéphanie Girard2, Alain Mavon2, Maxence
Delverdier3, Nicole Paillous1, Patricia Vicendo1
UV irradiation can cause cutaneous damage that may be specific
according to the wavelength of UV rays. For example, damage from UVB
irradiation manifests itself in the form of sunburn cells and
enhancement of the expression of p53, while damage from UVA exposure
results in an increase in the expression of vimentin. These reactions
to UV irradiation were used in this work to evaluate the
photoprotective capacities of two sunblock preparations that were
applied to the surface of the skin. One sunblock preparation is a UVB
absorber containing zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium oxide (TiO2)
exclusively. The other sunblock preparation is a new organo-mineral
sunblock containing Tinosorb M, OCM, ZnO and TiO2. Evaluation of the
photoprotective capacities of both preparations on hairless rat skin
and on in vitro reconstructed human epidermis revealed that they were
effective in preventing UVB-induced damage. In contrast, only the
organo-mineral sunblock was effective in the prevention of UVA-
specific damage such as dermal alterations characterized by the
expression of vimentin. Furthermore, our data support the fact that
hairless rat skin and in vitro reconstructed human epidermis are a
reliable basis for the evaluation of the photoprotective capacities
of various sunscreens against UVB and UVA damage.

Hi,

I wanted to share the ingredients of the sunscreen that I use when
I'll be out in the sun for extended periods of time. This sunscreen
does a great job, it's just so darn shiny and a bit oily though it
says it's oil free. However, it does not cause any breakouts. I get
absolutely no color on my skin when I use this sunscreen. Tinosorb M
is not approved by use by the FDA, so that's why I have to buy it at
an European online site. I read it is just as efficacious in
protecting skin from the sun as Mexoryl. Tinosorb M is for sensitive
skin.

For everyday, I use this around my eyes in the hopes of staving off
sun-induced crow's feet. The rest of my face still gets a good
coating of Dr. Sy's Zinco.
Take care,
Matija

Hi,

I've heard of this site (and have bought products from them a few
years ago) carrying the Anthelios sunscreen.

http://www.beautyhabit.com/anthelios.html

I think you can buy a sampler of a couple of different items for
$9.00, so you can try the Anthelios that way if your are interested.

http://www.beautyhabit.com/bhsample.html

Hope that helps!

Hi,

I've had pre-rosacea and rosacea since I've been about 14 years old
and I'm now in my early 40s. I've had pretty bad skin most of my life
and have just recently been able to have somewhat decent skin. Still,
I have had days where I'm just sick of my skin and all the trouble it
has caused. Most of us have been there and then some. Please try to
hang in there. There is a lot in life worth living for. Please let us
know if you are ok. We all really know how it is.

Take care,
Matija

Hi,

I have tried both the Canadian version of Anthelios L, with Mexoryl
SX, and the European version of Anthelios XL with Mexoryl XL. Mexoryl
XL is supposed to be a better chemical sunscreen protector than
Mexoryl SX. European sunscreen are supposed to be the best available
in the world.

Here is some information on them:

http://www.basiaandcarol.com/summary%20of%20%20sunscreens.htm

I think some of the information may be a bit biased since the
companies who produce them provide the studies.

At any rate, after a few days use, they all stung my face. Here is a
short review of Anthelios L I wrote a while back:

http://www.escribe.com/health/rosacea-support/m42372.html

Actually, you can buy the European sunscreens in the US. Zitomer, a
NYC-based drugstore, sells them over the internet.

http://www.zitomer.com

They are more expensive than if you buy them through a European
online store, e.g.,

http://www.beautycenter.co.uk/

Lastly, I've been trying a European sunscreen that has 100 spf with a
chemical sunscreen called Tinosorb M that is equal to the Mexoryls in
efficacy. The good news is that it does not burn my skin and it
really seems to keep my skin in good shape. It does not cause
breakouts either. It's really good. The name of it is Photoderm Spot
spf 100 and it is made for very sensitive skin:

URL will break:
http://www.beautycenter.co.uk/fiche_produit.php?
id_rayon=&id_article=3663

shortcut to above URL:

The old name of the sunscreen is Photoderm Laser (it is supposed to
work for those who have Laser treatment), but they just recently
changed the name to Spot for some unknown reason.

Take care,
Matija

When ever I am ill my skin is always 100 times worse than normal so don't
worry. Hopefully you will see a big improvment once you are feeling better!
I am sure most are the same

HI , I am needing someone to recommend a good moisturizing face
cream. Someone emailed a few days ago and recommeded origins
constant comforter moisturizing cream, but I cant seem to find it.
I live in a small town and Im very limited on where I can shop for
things. If someone could recommend something that I could find at
my local drugstore or walmart type store that would be great.
Thanks you
