Re: Those who have taken oral antifungal, are you seeing improvement?

Seeing as how I am near the end of my month long trial with Lamisil, I'll post
my
update here and hope that it helps you.

I went to my GP as my derm would NOT prescribe any oral antifungals for me. My
GP was very against it too but decided to give me Lamisil which is usually used
for
nail fungus but can help with yeast problems. I live in Southern California
where I
think doctors are so concerned with being sued that they are hesitant to
prescribe
anything a little out of the ordinary. Thanks all you trial lawyers out there!
;)

The first week was fabulous. My skin was peeling a lot but I think that's part
of the
process of the yeast dying off. I could rub flakes off and there was actually
skin
underneath and not just more flakes! This was similar to when I was on
Ivermectin.

I also noticed that my skin was not as sensitive to the environemnt and I was
flushing less, and the redness was markedly reduced. This continued until about
two weeks into it when things seemed to level off. It was also about this time
that I
went off the low yeast/sugar diet I had heard could help speed things along. I
think
diet does play a role because things actually got worse after I stopped it.
It's VERY
limiting though, no sugar, including fruits, no bread products, no nuts no
dairy, no
alcohol, really no nothing and I just couldn't do it. I never knew I liked
bread so much
until I couldn't have it!

So, things got flakier into the third and fourth weeks but my skin is much
smoother
and I have no more scales. The sebum level also seems reduced by about 40%
which has dramatically with the acne. I still flush frequently though and my
skin
seems to have resumed it's sensitivity to sun, wind ect....This point was driven
home
with a bat on a recent trip to Yosemite.

While I do like the results of taking the oral antifungal I'm not too
enthusiastic about
them being long term as I've heard yeast is very difficult to get rid of and
comes back
easily. I'm going to try sticking a moderate anti-yeast diet and using some
mild
topicals to hopefully keep it in check. I may also do some Nlite tx to help
with the
sebum but I need to read up this more.

On a side note, does any one know if there are precautions to take when under
going
IPL after an oral antifungal treatment? My derm doesn't seem to know, just said
to
be off it when I see him in three weeks.

I hope this helps.
