Hello Group,
I have some very good news. I spoke to Dr. Hal Broderson today
regarding their new treatment for facial redness and flushing.
Thanks again to Andrew Reid for digging this up and posting on his
blog.
I am not sure if everyone remembers my discussions about alpha
adrenoceptor agonists such as phenylephrine and my self trials with
it. You could easily find this on the search. Well, that
information found its way to certain researchers at
SansRosa/Bioadvance. They have been testing various alpha
adrenoceptor agonists at various potencies to relieve facial redness
and reduce/eliminate some forms of flushing. This also literally
wipes papules away within a 24 hour day (vs. the 6 weeks needed by
metrogel).
A selective agonist that causes mild constriction in theory wont
cause rebound dilation like hydrocortisone. This has been
verified. There are also newer better alpha agonists available to
test. Dr. Broderson used all the right lingo with Classification
Subtypes and was planning on calling me to confirm my findings a
year or so ago.
I politely reminded him that while focusing on the active ingredient
is important, so is the vehicle. Please dont use harsh emulsifiers
or alcohols........he agreed and had the same experiences. So they
are acutely aware of the need for a gentle base.
The interesting thing about selective alpha-1, alpha-1a, alpha-1b,
alpha-1c or alpha-1d agonists is that they work on all three vessel
types. They constrict arterioles, venules and lymphatics. This is
very important for rosaceans as all three are involved in our
vascular abnormalities.
They are also adding something else proprietary which they could not
mention and I did not push. He will keep us updated. This will be
the best attempt yet to put a holster on Subtype I rosacea --
redness, flushing and papules.
Regards,
Geoffrey
