Hi to all,
Here's my story and some of my own theories. I am not a doctor. I am an
inventor by trade. I try to avoid doctors at all costs and have only been to a
doctor 6 x's in the last 20 years. But my rosacea came on so fast and powerful,
that I made an appointment last November to at least see what this was that was
engulfing my face. I was especially concerned because it was on my left eye-lid
and it felt like it was going under the eye-lid. I was worried about losing my
eye, so I went to the the doctor.
My rosacea started in August of 2004. I had had a bacterial infection years
before on my chin. I took some anti-biotics for 10 days and the symptoms
improved, but never really went away. I was curious as to what it was, but
symptoms got better, then worse, then better.
It was when I travelled to Florida last Novemberwith my daughter for a tennis
tournamentthat all hell broke loose. One night I noticed the p&p's forming on
my eye lid and all around my mouth and nose. By morning, I looked horrible and
my eyelid was painful when I blinked. Panic-time. I made an appointment.
I was diagnosed with Rosacea and given prescriptions for 3 different things.
One, an anti-biotic, (some form of tetracyclin) and two, the metrogel. Since I
never go to doctors I have no insurance. After paying $113 for the
anti-biotics, I passed on the metrogel and whatever else the doctor had
recommended. I was supposed to take the anti-biotic for 30 days and then see my
local doctor in Vegas. I took the anti-biotics for 9 days and did see an
improvement. But I found this site and others on the internet and made myself a
guinea pig, (sorry spelling?).
I ordered every product I could find and paid for "secret cures" for rosacea.
Some were scams and none have "cured" me yet, but maybe a few ingredients in
this "rosacea cocktail" are being effective, because 6 weeks after having the
worst break-out and red face I have ever seen, my rosacea is now nearly
unnoticeable.
Before I go any further, the usual disclaimer. I am not a doctor. Some of the
treatments I give myself may be harmful to you. I am not recommending these to
anyone. This is simply what I have done.
1. Cut sugar from my diet. I feel that rosacea may be a yeast related desiese.
Cutting sugar, (including fruit and fruit juices) definately helps me. There
are many who say this does nothing for you, but it does for me.
2. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar - Smells horrible, but this has helped me control
rosacea very much. You have to be careful, because too much will eat away the
skin to deep because of the acidity, but just enough will eat away the bumpy,
thick skin, without damaging the good skin.
Soak a cotton ball and scrub softly in a circular motion. You will have to
experiment to see how long to scrub. Scrub a little, then wait about 30
seconds. The bumps should begin to turn a little whitish in color. If they do,
stop. This means the acid in the vinegar has penetrated the infected area just
through the surface. Usually within 1-2 days, that area will peel off. I then
repeat the process over and over until the skin is flat and smoothe. This has
been very successful for me.
I have had quite a few times where I was too aggresive. The spot will scab over
and take 4-5 days to heal.
I usually just let the vinegar dry on my face and go to bed although no one can
stand the smell. I think it is OK to apply it, let it dry, then rinse off with
water.
3. To stubborn areas, I tear off small pieces of cotton and place them on an
adhesive strip. I put colloidal silver on the cotton and then tape it to the
infected areas and leave on while I sleep.
Problem here is there are so many different kinds of colloidal silver and it is
quite expensive. I find that the CS with a protein binder in it, (which give it
a dark color) seems to be more effective with skin conditions, although
manufacturers claim that the clear colored colloidal silver is the best.
The best I have used had a "royal blue blood" coat of arms on the bottle, and
was just called "genuine colloidal silver concentrate". I ran out and am not
sure where I got it from. If I find out, I will post again. If anyone finds
this, let me know. I have used it on other skin conditions in a similar manner
and it is quite effective.
I also use the silver for eye drops if my eye is showing signs of infection, or
even if I have itchy eyes due to alergies. Silver is very effective at stopping
itchy eyes.
4. In the middle of the night, the cotton balls with silver solution will be
dry. I will tear them off, and witout even turning on the light, I will apply
regular zinc oxide to the bad areas. It definately makes my face more
comfortable and probably helps heal the areas where I have put vinegar.
5. I have also made a mixture of DMSO and sea buckthorne oil. I apply this
about every other day. On severely infected areas, this will burn, a lot.
Where areas are healing, the irritation is mild. I do not believe this is as
effective as the vinegar and silver, but I do it anyway.
I also swallow a capsule of the sea buckthorne oil about every 3 days.
6. I am taking 1000 mg. of L-lysine a day. Effectiveness - unknown.
7. I take megadoses of vitamin C. 4000 mg on the low side, 8000 mg on the
high. This seems to help with any condition. I am a strong believer in Vitamin
C. I take Ester C sometimes, but for me, it seems the regular old sour vitamin
C is better. My main concern with vitimin C is how acidic my body must be
getting because of the large dose. Is there anything to counter that with
without altering the effectiveness of the vitamin C?
8. I take a calcium/magnesium supplement with vitamin D. I also take Garlic
pills with as much Allicin as I can find. I use teh Garlicin Brand from
Nature's Way Products.
I also started taking Total Immune Booster from Greenwood Health Systems and
Threelac. I also ingest 2 teaspoon full of Mesosilver, a colloidal silver. All
of these last things are anti-yeast, anti-fungal products including the Allicin.
That is basically it. My own theory is that rosace, at least the type I have,
(as it seems everyone is a little different) is yeast or fungal related.
Why do I think so? I had skin conditions on my shins, elbows, and palms of my
hands for 13 years. I went to several dermatoligists here in the US because my
palms would actually bleed because of the extreme itching and resulting
scratching. I couldn't even shake hands with someone. I was given steroidal
salves that helped little.
Because I invent and manufacture products overseas, I was in Thailand and
stopped by a pharmacy. I asked the pharmicist if he knew anything to help my
hands. He said I had a yeast infection and told me to take fluconozole,
(spelling). After 13 years, my skin cleared up in 3 weeks. Like a baby's
bottom. Yes, I have heard about the possible bad side effects, but it was quite
amazing.
I am noting now that with my rosacea, I also have jock itch, and my toe nail is
starting to discolor. I am quite sure, the yeast infection has returned. I am
going to try a stint with fluconozole again and see what happens. For what it
is worth, I drink extra water when taking this, and drink parsely tea to
stimulate the kidney, and coffee enemas to stimulate the liver. (Dr. Nase is
probably laughing his head off right now, but hey, this is FYI and I am doing
this because I look normal right now and I'm hoping it may help one or two of
you.)
I started on fluconozole last night. I will post later to let you know what
happens. Also, FYI, I have cured a yeast condition with diet and basically
injesting Oregano Oil capsules, but it is very difficult to keep up the regimen
for me. I am hoping that a steady diet of Threelac, Garlicin, Colloidal Silver
and Total Immune Booster will keep it under control once the fluconozole wipes
most of it out.
Sorry, I do not have any before/after pictures. Too busy, I have six children.
To look at me six weeks ago was terrible. You would see other people's eyes
analyze each square inch of the horrible red mass, and not look you in the eye.
Now, my symptoms are one or two small red dots that attempt to start something,
but I control, and the severe areas around my mouth and nose are 99%
unnoticeable.
Quackery? maybe, but it worked for me. Las Vegas
