Not anymore. Almost half the patients I talk to nowadays get
partial to full reimbursement on a series of 5 treatments. You have
to expect one automatic denial letter and then resubmit with a few
more medical references. I personally know at least a dozen
rosacea patients that have had 10 to 15 full face treatments
reimbursed fully -- thats about $7,500. If a laser physician wont
write you a medical necessity letter for reimbursement then tell him
that you've just lost his business and many others who you converse
with on the allmightly internet. Laser physicians are making too
much money. They dont have to deal with insurance setting their
prices, the money is out of pocket or credit card up front. Its
time for them to start earning their money. Reimbursements are no
sweat off their back either so there should be no reason why they
should not write a medical necessity letter (and not cosmetic
letter) and detail that the laser is FDA approved and no longer
considered experimental. You would be surprised what some elbow
grease and an extra 15 minutes will get you.

I have long considered adding a web page to my site detailing what
laser surgeons dont make an effort to get reimbursement for
patients. Trust me, this will get their attention. But it is a
fine line for me.

Regards,

Geoffrey
