This is mostly a Lack of Progress report because things are getting
trickier.
I took 1.2 ml.of the oral Ivomec on Saturday. It had quite an antiseptic
taste, but went down okay with strongly flavoured food. No problems, apart
from a little after-taste about four hours later. There was no itching
because the solution turned out to be far too weak.
The dosage of 1.2 ml was based on the injectable form of Ivomec, which is 1%
Ivermectin, thus equivalent to 10 mg per ml. Apparently, the oral
formulation of Ivomec I got is only 0.08%, so the proper dose would have
required FIFTEEN times as much. Horrors! The taste can be tolerated in teeny
amounts, but 15 times as much would be hard to take.
Doc sent an email urging me to throw it out and buy only the highest grade
1% injectable form. That sounds sensible, but the shop won't decant the
injectable form, so one would have to buy several hundred dollars' worth.
Could get a small amount of the injectable from the vet, but only with a
prescription. Not keen on that because my doctor has a wicked sense of
humour and he would tease me about it forever after. I wouldn't persevere
with this were it not for the fact that my type of rosacea is the kind most
likely to be helped by killing these critters (mites, not mocking docs -
although there's a thought!)
Kind regards,
Aurelia
