Re: [rosacea] Re: tips for cold weathers

Nancy: My skiing plan this winter, which I experimented with on the last trip
out last winter, is to wear two layers. 1) A thin, Polartec balaclava, which
will cover nose, cheeks and neck. 2) A breathable neoprene face mask, which will
cover the same area, which I bought online from a place in Wales. (I'm in the
U.S.). The problem with the fabric balaclavas is they don't block the wind when
you're going dowhill, and they don't keep me from flushing. I've tried the
neoprene masks before, and they irritated my face when worn directly. I'm hoping
the balaclava will be gentle on the skin and the neoprene on top of that will
block the wind. Jay

Skiing kills my face. Before I finally just gave it up, I used a fleece
neck gaiter that I pulled up over my lower face and mouth. That kept the
wind off, but the fleece would hold the moisture from my breath and get
damp, and it would chafe against my skin (or worse, freeze and REALLY
chafe).

My boyfriend has a fleece balaclava that is like a hood that comes down his
neck, with a cut-out for his eyes/goggles that has two pullcords around it
to tighten it down. The face part hangs kind of away from his face and
overhangs the part that goes down his neck--that allows his breath to
escape, and he can just hike the face part up if he needs to use his mouth,
and the neck part stays in place. The bottom just gets tucked into the
neck of his jacket.

Since it's sort of loose, it might not chafe, but the part up around his
cheeks and eyes is pretty tight, so there's a chance of a reaction to the
fabric up there.

I poked around on the internet a little and found balaclavas, but none with
the flap thing, which I think might be essential for a rosacean with lower
face issues. And I really wouldn't believe claims that the fleece breathes
and allows moisture to escape.
