Re: [rosacea] Steroid Rosacea/Salt/Vinegar

I was given hydrocortizone valtrate about two monthes ago by my old derm. When
she gave me this steriod she never mentioned to only use it for a few days at a
time or that I had sebb-derm. She also diegnosed me with rosacia. I have never
really had pustuals or redness in places other than where I had dryness and
flaking. I used the steriod for two monthes untill learning of the side effects.
I slowly stoped but the result was horrible! I have had to stop school and take
the semester off to get help. I am now seeing a coulege of Dr shalita in NYC. He
informed me that I never had rosacia only sebboriec dermatitus. Im on desodine
lotion the lowest grade steriod for a week and then will begin to shift to
protopic a non striod cream. I advise all in the group with flaking and skin
buildup to question there rosacia diegnosis. The two are very often mistaken for
one another. Both cause redness and flaking. If you notice that it is inbetween
your eyes, either sides of nose, and along
hairlines you may have sebb-derm. Some people have both rosacia and sebb-derm
but this number is small. I will continue to post with my experiance.

Please, If anyone knows elidel has cortisone-steroid please tell us. Thanks!

blanas76 wrote: Hi. I have been a member here for years. I have not posted for a
long time.

I got steroid induced rosacea about 7 years ago after stopping a
steroid cream. I stopped it suddenly, with no doctors help. I had no
idea that it was anything harmful, as I asked the doctor many times.
You can use it for the rest of your life and it will never hurt you.
I used it twice a day for about 8 years. I have written about this
years ago if anyone wants to go back in the archives. My life has
never been the same.

Anyway, I used Novacet(sulpher based and no longer available) for the
last 6-7 years until recently. It was the only thing that helped at
all when my face was such a mess, but my face was still ultra
sensitive. I could not lay it down on a pillowcase.

The novacet helped, but it kept my face so red and dry that it almost
cracked. If I stopped it, however, my face returned to it's original
condition: completely covered in red bumps and rashes, swollen and
sore. Even after years, if I stopped the novacet for a few days, my
face went back to how it looked the day I stopped the steroid cream.

I Have had MANY laser treatments. Versapulse, Vbeam, IPL, Pulse
Dye.... I would never have left the house without my first Versapulse
treatments. I wanted to die. Some have helped, some have done
nothing. I have concluded that it is the doctor's skill that has
everything to do with it's success.

Anyway, finally to my point. About four months ago, I stopped all
topicals. I was trying a few new products along with my novacet and I
just realized that these topicals were so irritating and drying that
i wanted to find my real skin again.

I went back to using a sea salt and water rinse in the morning (I am
one of the members here who tried this years ago and found it very
soothing) I also decided to try the vinegar that was recommended on
here for seb derm.(You can imagine my seb derm with somany years of
steroid cream) I couldn"t imagine putting vinegar on my face, but I
diluted it by half and gave it a try. It has been great. I used it
for a few nights in a row and then stopped. It has completely cleard
my seb derm and I only need to use it once every 2-3 weeks. I do the
sea salts in water rinse in the morning and sometimes at night. It is
the best. So soothing. I use no topicals now. So far so great.(I have
some elidel from the derm that I will use if I need it).

I'm sorry this is so long. If I can help anyone, let me know.

Ann
