Hi,
This is just a little reminder of two things the RSG moderating team would
particularly like you to remember in 2009:
(1) We try to run a happy ship, so members are encouraged to stay friendly,
respectful and supportive.
(2) We accept both scientific data and personal or anecdotal input, and we
recognise that it can be hard for members to separate the two if there is a
strong emotional involvement.
A very rough guide is to remember that scientific fact is usually taken to mean
that multiple peer-reviewed studies by multiple independent researchers have
established (preferably by double-blind placebo testing)
statistically-significant correlations and the resultant hypotheses have been
challenged and accepted by consensus.
If whatever you have read doesn't reach those standards, it would be best not to
assume that it will convince other people, despite having convinced you.
Please refer to all other claims as hypothetical, speculative, personal opinion,
or something you strongly believe.
Please accept that others may sincerely hold equally strong beliefs, and it is
possible that time may eventually prove that neither of you were correct! :o
Kind regards,
Aurelia
