Hi Elena,

I used to be freezing cold all of my life. I hated it when the outside (or
inside) temperature dropped below 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In December 1977 I
moved to Los Angeles. How I managed the cold growing up in Philadelphia, PA and
then living in Boston, MA for 5 years I just don't know. I was always wearing
multiple layers of clothing, even in summer! In June 2003 I started a homepathic
treatment (classical remedy) for the coldness. In homeopathics like "cures"
like. I was given the coldest remedy in the repertoire. Brrrrrr! Took 8 months
of treatment but it cleared the coldness. Now I can comfortably wear short
sleeve shirts and shorts. And when it is colder, I don't suffer. Long sleeve
shirts do just fine. I don't need multiple layers.

With heading into menopause, I am a little warmer over all although there are
days when my butt and lower half of my body can be cold. In Chinese medicine
that's a condition called "cold below with heat above." Often comes with the
menopause territory, but not in every case. I notice that some of my female
patients run generally hotter, while others run generally colder, none of
rosacea. I don't know that Rosacea would be a deciding factor for temperature.
Too many other variables involved. Me personally ... I was running colder when I
experienced the bulk of my rosacea symptoms.

From your description it sounds to me that you have a hotter constitution than
most, and you're the opposite of what I used to be. Wish I had known, I would
have gladly swapped you some heat for my cold! :)

Rachael

others: do you find that with the Rosacea you are "hotter" than most people in
general? To me when the temperature is 70 that is HOT to me. I don't get cold
enough to put on a coat until it is below 40 degrees. I have not always been
this way but began to notice this in my 20's after I got Rosacea. I did not
connect it with the Rosacea at that time. Just figured I was a stay at home mom
and was always cleaning, cooking and standing over hot water cleaning dishes,
and chasing kids.

October (I live in New England) and all winter, unless it is below 30 degrees, I
have windows open and the heat is only on high enough to keep the pipes from
freezing. I usually stick with short sleeved t-shirts all winter. It is a
curious thing and my thyroid has been tested more than once (it runs in my
family), but I really do think it is the Rosacea. Especially since I learned
that it seems to be a vascular disease. Just curious if others suffering from
this find that they run hotter than most "regular" people.

Ah well, there goes my theory. I really thought I was on to something there. I
am so tired of being hot I just thought it HAD to be the Rosacea. I can't say I
was ever cold before the Rosacea. I was what I considered normal. I was hot
when you'd expect people to be hot and cold when appropriate. Now forget it.
It is Sept. in New England and was maybe in the seventies today and I still have
my air-conditioners blasting at ten p.m..........I freeze out my whole family.
I can't open the windows because I have a ten year old that is very allergic
during spring and fall. But once the first frost hits then the windows get
opened and so they all freeze that way. But I feel like it is easier to put on
layers and get warm than to find a way to get cool when the heat is radiating
from inside you. I was so hoping that my hotness would get under control once
the Rosacea was under control. Which Remedy do you think would help my hotness?
I am familiar with homeopathic remedies. What
was the one that helped you with the cold? Well, thanks for answering my
little experimental question.

Take care,
Elena

Elena,

Since you were a normal temperature before developing Rosacea, perhaps Rosacea
plays a part in your case, I don't know. I could be the odd one having been so
cold. I thought I read someone else's post from the group that she also runs
hot.

I went to a practitioner who is well trained in classical homeopathy, which
apparently is quite different from "merely choosing a remedy" based on a symptom
as she used to tell me. She prescribed psorinum (sore EYE num) based on various
patterns I had, which remedies changed over the course of 2 years as I cleared
one level after another. I had a lot to conditions to turn around :) Rosacea was
only one in a long line of problems. My practitioner did attempt to treat my
face through homeopathy but we both don't know how effective it was. Certainly
my face didn't get any worse, but it surely didn't get any better, either. Not
until I started the Diet and Z cream treatment did I get marked improvement.

For your heat problems, if you have access to a classical homeopathy
practitioner or a person well versed in prescribing Chinese herbs, these are two
treatments that I'm certain could help you. You don't have to continue to suffer
from this internal heat as you describe in your two posts, although it may take
some time to turn it around. So, you'd have to be patient.

Since you mention you live in New England, there are many good Chinese medical
practitioners who've graduated from the New England School of Acupuncture in
Watertown, MA, outside Boston. It's the oldest acupuncture school in the U.S.
Many of the current heavy-weights in the Chinese medical field in the U.S. came
from this school and have made significant contributions towards education and
treatment. The following link shows a list of graduates of the school state by
state. There's a lot of practitioners in the New England states!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Rachael,

I do have a homeopathic md. He has told me that Rosacea is the toughest to
treat. Even his nurse practitioner has it! He treated me once with Rhus Tox,
and Sulphur I believe too. Just like your experience, they did not hurt but I
saw no improvements. But I do believe you have to do more than take a remedy.
You do have to make the commitment to change a whole lot of things. I live
under extreme stress. I think I am getting a handle on it, but I am 45 and have
taken the last 25 years trying to live within extreme levels of stress that
don't let up. We all do. Just some people "get it" sooner how to deal and then
there are the ones like me you have to be hit over the head with a hammer to
learn LOL! Anyway, all these things are a factor to whatever health issues we
are battling so I am not surprised that Rhus Tox was not my magic bullet.
Thanks for the link I think this is definitely worth looking into. I can't
function this hot any more. I actually look forward to getting
the flu in the winter because I get to feel a chill and drink hot tea while it
is actually hot and hot soup while it is actually hot and it feels good! How
sick is that to wait for the flu to enjoy a hot cup of tea LOL! Too bad the
body aches and headache has to come with it. Anyway, thanks again.

God Bless,
Elena

Elena,

My hubby runs hot, too, although not to the extent of your description. He eats
a lot of popsicles! LOL :) I'm one for putting illnesses in a good light for the
positives they can bring out in us -- like rosacea hooking me up with you fine
people and the things I tried which put me in touch with some wonderful people
although the remedies themselves weren't successful. I'll definitely keep in
mind the cooling factor to the flu! LOL :) Let me know if you hook up with
Chinese herbs. Will be interesting to hear of your experiences.

HI Rachael, I will let you know if I decide the Chinese herb route. I agree
with with your husbands popsicle "therapy" LOL.........I also wanted to ask,
when you used the Z Cream you are one of a few who used it day and night, so I
was wondering did you use sunscreen over it if you knew you could not avoid the
sun? I will be on the school playground alot this year again and there is no
shade whatsoever so I just want to make sure there is nothing in sunscreen that
would react negatively with the Z Cream.

Thanks,
Elena

Hi Elena,

Yes, I used the Z cream morning and night. The night was the most important
"dose" but as my face was so bad, I used it in the morning and wore it all day,
too. I did suffer for the first couple of months with incredible dryness from it
but adding the good fats from the Diet, overall increased nutrition, and washing
with a cotton ball and water daily eventually eased some of the dryness. Now you
wouldn't know that my face had been so dry.

Uh, let's see. Sunscreen. Nope. I never used a sunscreen. <gasp!> I know, ain't
I the bad one! LOL :) I'm not a big advocate of sunscreen for the usual day to
day going in and out of stores or work. That's my preference. However, when I
was going to be outside for a number of hours at a time -- for example, I took a
class in which a good portion of it was held outside -- I did put on sunscreen.
The teacher brought some sunscreen in, and I used whatever she provided, don't
know what the brand was. My face did okay with it.

In your case of being outside on a school playground, I think you are wise to
use sunscreen. Maybe a hat, too -- go all out and be fashionable LOL :) =-- so
you don't have to suffer from any burning. As to what brand, I don't know what
to tell you. I'm sure others here make recommendations.

I'm guessing that you're using the Z cream, twice a day, morning and night. If
your school schedule will allow you to wash off the Z cream before you put the
sunscreen on, I would do that as first choice. That's the best way I know to
avoid any reaction. But granted, you may not have that luxury in time. If not,
then those days when you'll be on the playground -- Monday through Friday? --
perhaps only apply the Z cream at night. Maybe others here in the group who used
the Z cream only at night can tell you whether it still takes 4 months to treat
for the mites and all.

Dr. Linda Sy sells Zinco Cream which has sunscreen in it, in a tinted and
untinted version. I believe some group members used it as well as the Z cream.
You might ask the group. You can get samples of the Zinco cream to try. She
allows up to four samples of her products for $10 plus shipping. Two advantages
-- you don't have to lay out a lot of money for something you might have a
problem with, AND you get a nice size travel container :)

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Rachael

HI Rachael. You were very helpful as usual. I did try the Z Cream twice a day
for three days but my skin seems irritated. I got some raised red bumps around
the outer edges of my face. Like on the sides of my face and my forehead. I
did not put it on last night or this morning. Not sure if this is a normal
reaction to have. I was pleasantly surprised that that stinging I felt the
first time I tried it on my nose went away in 5 minutes just like you and Brady
mentioned it would so I thought I was going to do alright with it. But not sure
about this red raised bumpy rash look and sting. I am glad that the diet alone
will do a great deal to help because I'm just not sure what to put on my face.
Noritate still doesn't bother my face and plain Zinc (well, so far as you can
find it with no other ingredients in it) feels soothing. So it's the diet most
of all for me. It's been three weeks now I am hoping to start to see something
better in the mirror and feel less irritated
soon.

Thanks again,
Elena

day going in and out of stores or work.

Rachael

with with your husbands popsicle "therapy" LOL.........I also wanted to ask,
when you used the Z Cream you are one of a few who used it day and night, so I
was wondering did you use sunscreen over it if you knew you could not avoid the
sun? I will be on the school playground alot this year again and there is no
shade whatsoever so I just want to make sure there is nothing in sunscreen that
would react negatively with the Z Cream.

Elena

Both Rachael and I started about the same time. She has about two weeks on
me.
I started using the Z cream day and night but it became to much. I only
used it at night (starting the 2nd day in) and my face is clear.......I
might average 2 "little" pimples a month. But my redness is gone and the
"big" bumps are gone. Trust me my face was the face of a teenager.....Im
twenty nine. The diet helps ALOT as well. Just following as close as I can
has helped in not only my face but I have lost 25 pounds (not trying)
Good Luck and ask all the questions you need.
This group is really good. I mostly lurk and read but once in awhile I jump
in!!

HI Erin,

Thanks! It is good to hear that this is working for pretty much everyone who
tries it. I just got back from the eye doctor and he said my eyes were "bone
dry". I have an appt. with him next week to talk about the occular Rosacea. My
eyes are hot inside, and itchy, but didn't expect that they would be dry since I
have no problem with producing tears. But my skin is just as itchy and stinging
and dry as my eyes and my scalp. I just want the diet to kick in and start
feeling and seeing a difference. It is only 3 weeks for me. Thanks again for
posting. It is encouraging.

Take care,
ELena

Sorry I forgot to also tell you my face did dry out ALOT and it still is dry
at times. I wash my face with a cotton ball and then dry it with another
one and that seem to take the "yucky" skin off. (I took that one from
Rachel!) I put cream on my face too......it use to be alot, now its not so
much. I have been using Avon cream but I just ran out so I am inbetween
untill I get some more.
I hope this helps

Erin,

That's GREAT to hear about your positive results with the Z cream, and to know
you can get just as good results with applying it only once a day, at night. I
lost about 21 pounds on the Diet and it was the easiest time I've ever had of
shedding the extra weight AND most importantly, keeping it off. Plus having a
clear face ain't nothing to sneeze at, either! LOL :)

Have patience Elena! LOL :)

I started seeing the tiniest hint of results about week 3 on the Diet, so
changes are a-comin', I promise! :) Marked improvement in my face came in about
2.5 to 3 months. So, just keep following the plan ... no matter what.

Remember --

-- it takes 24 hours to go through a day
-- it takes 3 months to get through a season
-- it takes 12 months to go through a year
-- it takes 10 lunar months for make a fully-activated, deluxe model baby out of
one cell LOL :)

Mother Nature does not heal on a micro-wave basis or follow the time clock of
instant-on televisions! She knows very well what she's doing, knows exactly what
your body needs, and the time it takes to accomplish the body's tasks. Mother
Nature is in the "life" business ... and often life is slow.

Your healing actually began 3 weeks ago. Just like you can't see the plant after
you put the seed in the ground, you gotta have patience. While you're waiting
for the healing to become visible? Go find something fun to do -- you deserve
it!! :)

Love and hugs, Rachael

Yeah Rachael, when you think of how many years it took to get to this point in
my health (25 years) I will just be grateful if it doesn't take 25 years to get
healthy LOL!!! My son's new school affords me the opportunity to do something I
love. He is going to a Catholic school this year and I get to go an hour
earlier to pick him up in order to find a place to park and the Church is open
so I get some really wonderful prayer time in one of the most beatiful Churches
I've seen. Nice and peaceful so hopefully all will began to fall in place.
That's as long as I don't have to work anyway. By the way, I love your time

Elena,

Through trial and error, I ended up putting the Z cream ONLY on those areas
where my face was red or pink, or a lot itchy next to the red or pink areas.
When I put the Z cream on "normal" skin -- I originally tried putting the Z
cream all OVER my face -- the "normal" skin immediately got red, sore and highly
irritated. Maybe that's going on for you. The Diet is going to do a great deal
but my experience is some topical treatment is still necessary.

around the outer edges of my face. Like on the sides of my face and my
forehead. I did not put it on last night or this morning. Not sure if this is
a normal reaction to have. I was pleasantly surprised that that stinging I felt
the first time I tried it on my nose went away in 5 minutes just like you and
Brady mentioned it would so I thought I was going to do alright with it. But
not sure about this red raised bumpy rash look and sting. I am glad that the
diet alone will do a great deal to help because I'm just not sure what to put on
my face. Noritate still doesn't bother my face and plain Zinc (well, so far as
you can find it with no other ingredients in it) feels soothing. So it's the
diet most of all for me. It's been three weeks now I am hoping to start to see
something better in the mirror and feel less irritated soon.

Okay, when things calm down I'll give that a try. But it may be hard to do
since even though the skin isn't so red, it is burning and itching everywhere.

Elena,

To help calm the redness, soreness and irritation after my "Z cream-on-the-neck
experiment" didn't work out so well, I used organic aloe vera gel. Took several
days with the gel but my neck skin finally calmed down and haven't had a problem
since. I wish rosacea in all its forms wasn't so fussy. It's maddening trying to
find products that work, and once you find 'em how to apply them to get the job
done, without your face fussing! Grrrrrr as a friend of mine says often :)

Yes we do like that instant gratification. But it really does help to look at
it the way you have it printed out. Sometimes all we need is to see it written
out like that to realize how foolish we are being with our wanting everything
yesterday mentality. Here's to baby steps and taking it slow!

Elena, another thought for calming the skin after a flare up of irritation was
the old standby -- water and cotton ball for a couple of days. By the way, I
borrowed that technique from others -- can't take full credit :) Skin does heal
on its own (although in our cases with rosacea it needs help to reach a certain
threshold of healing) when we give it a chance or make the conditions right for
the healing to take place. I think that's the thought behind Dr. Nase in
"Beating Rosacea" saying we could do a lot toward healing our skin by stopping
the use of harsh products and putting together a gentle skin care regimen.

The aloe vera gel should help with the burning on your face. You might try a
very small amount of the gel on one very small area of your face where it burns
and see how your skin does. The itching on my neck apparently wasn't from the
mites or I don't think it would have responded so violently to the Z cream. I'm
not sure what the itching was from but after my neck skin calmed down with the
aloe vera gel, I never had another problem with itching. Our skin is just so
weird at times! :(

Hi Rachael,

I like your positive spin ; "our skin is just so weird at times", AT TIMES????
That IS very positive of you LOL!

skin after a flare up of irritation was the old standby -- water and cotton ball
for a couple of days. By the way, I borrowed that technique from others -- can't
take full credit :) Skin does heal on its own (although in our cases with
rosacea it needs help to reach a certain threshold of healing) when we give it a
chance or make the conditions right for the healing to take place. I think
that's the thought behind Dr. Nase in "Beating Rosacea" saying we could do a lot
toward healing our skin by stopping the use of harsh products and putting
together a gentle skin care regimen.
