HI,
Don't know if this will help at all since for me my occular rosacea never
shows in red eyes, but my eyes have gotten EXTREMELY dry and
painful........burning (even on the skin on the lids and sides of my eyes) ,
itching, stinging. What my eye doctor did was to put me on 100mg. of
doxycycline for two weeks (I know that some have done this but as high as 100mg.
TWICE daily), can't remember the prescription eye drop now but my guess is it
was the Restasis. I know it must have been a steriod because you could not be
on it long. After that (and also a lot of fish supplements which I still take a
lot of oil.........the TheraTears fish and flax oil capsules, Evening Primrose
Oil, and extra Flaxseed oil), he gave me a prescription for Patanol, lowered the
doxy (but I can't seem to get below 80mg. a day in divided doses or 40 in the
morning and 40 in the evening), and I use TheraTears drops and genteel drops as
needed as much as I want. This usually keeps me comfortable enough
to function. It is still no picnic though. He also told me to put a little
Eucerin cream (the original) on my lids. He recently wants me to try two new
drops after I am done with the Patanol. Sorry can't remember them right now so
if you'd like to know them let me know and I will make sure to bring the
prescriptions to my computer next time.
Take care,
elena

Dear rosacea diet users support group,
I'm so squeaky new here. I've had more enthusiasm than computer time lately,
so I haven't really checked in with you all yet...until now!
(By the way, this address is the one I would like to use for group
communication:
_SandyEggo2@..._ (mailto:SandyEggo2@...) . I was mistaken in
believing I had to create a Yahoo address.)
This is Day Four for me on your rosacea diet. Doing OK and have had happy
days and pleasant surprises that I get to eat so much that I like and don't
feel too deprived. I am drinking so much water that I'm all but sloshing. I
realize that fruits and vegetables are allowed and included in the carb counts,
but I'm having to cut down a lot of what I'm used to there (salads and
veggies, especially). I'm not up to speed on amount of vitamins recommended.
Shall
be increasing.
Queta, it was worth signing on today just to get your group note about
fluorescent lighting. That is SO me, too!!! When I look into a mirror in a place
lighted that way, I'm stunned at how red my eyes are--but knowing from eye
discomfort before looking that it wasn't a good situation for me. Open for
tips/info.
A little about me:
Anne, 54, San Diego area, caregiver, overall healthy, exercise (& sweat!) a
lot, maybe 10 pounds overweight. Ocular rosacea about five years now, regular
rosacea seemingly longer (although for a long time I attributed my skin
changes to Scandinavian genetic tendency to dryness and sensitivity and having
been
a sun worshipper here in So Cal for most of my life--and not drinking enough
water--and aging. I know that they are factors, too).
For maybe four years now I've been increasingly feeling like I look freaky.
Even dear friends comment at nearly every get-together about my red eyes and
flushing. I'm trying to let it be known that I'm well aware & don't need the
updates. :-/ Then there are the clerks who double-take or stare a little too
long and seem to get quiet, even if they just were chatty with others. I'm
sure I add to the problem with being uncomfortable, reading into things...
My optometrist seemed startled lately. He recommended Restasis. Any help
there?
My eye doctor identified ocular rosacea long since but has nothing to
recommend other than baby shampoo cleaning and GenTeal type drops. I tried
silicone
tear duct plugs and didn't notice much improvement in rosacea, redness,
burning----& really didn't like the overflow of tears down my face and the very
wet
(& blurry) eyes.
My mother also has ocular rosacea, so I guess I come by it honestly.
No, world, I am not on drugs, haven't been crying or swimming or drinking,
aren't (too) crazy or bedeviled. :-) The "windows to my soul" are just tinted
& need some extra care.
Glad to be connected with others who understand and have positives to offer!
Shall update as I continue with the diet. Thank you for sharing it--and all
that you members have learned (& are wondering & the experiments in progress).
Appreciate you!
Anne
(P.S. My apologies if I make mistakes in being a group member and in how I
use the mail. I've not done this before--& shall learn.)
