This forum was created to allow interested mental health consumers and other with an interest in NSW going Smoke Free.

A forum was held on
Friday, 13 June 2008 at Croydon Community Health Service.

The Forum examined the pros and cons of whether mental health consumers
should be allowed to smoke in inpatient and locked wards on NSW Health
facilities.

A consumer working group to be known as the NSW Consumer Voice (The
Group) was established on Saturday 30 August 2008 to progress the issues
raised in this report.

Aim of the Group

The aim of The Group is to have NSW Health reinstate designated smoking
areas to all NSW Mental Health inpatient units and locked wards, in the same form since exemptions were first granted in 1998.

Evaluating the Recommendations

The Groups wants NSW Health to develop an evaluation framework of this
policy initiative, and that consumers from The Group be invited to participate in the development of this framework.

Communicating the Recommendations

This is another avenue the Group will use to discuss the points raised during the small groups session on 13 June 2008.
