Hey Vinod
I started to look into the "Transition" style lens earlier this year and the
problem for "us" is that they take to long to flip from one thing to the other.
And as they get older they take even longer to flip... My brother ((who also
has RP) tried them and his complaint with them was they could not decide where
to be sometimes Now I do admit that was a generation or two of the lens ago so
that may have changed somewhat but for me personally I use clip on style lens so
I can take them off quickly when I go into a darker place....

Subject: [RetinitisPigmentosa] Options for Eye Glasses
Hi All,
Just had a few questions about sunglasses to reduce
glare. I was wondering of I should go for transitions
lenses which change protection based on sunlight. Is
this effective enough for us RPers because glare is a
big problem and I am not sure if it will get 'dark'
enough to stop the glare. On the other end of this
problem, will its protection make it difficult to see
since we also cant see much without light. I need
corrective lenses and any solution to this problem
should take that into account.
Another thing is that most lenses these days offer a
antiglare coating option to reduce glare. I tried them
once and am not quite sure it helps us. Another
option is tinted glasses with some colors like amber,
pink, yellow e.t.c. Both these options are good if not
buying the transitions ones I mentioned above.
Finally, I also feel that the frame of my glasses
might be obstructing some of my peripheral vision by
being too small. Hence, I am thinking of something
which is larger and covers my eyes more with the lens.
Anyone have any similar experiences?
Would love to hear what combinations some of you are
using.
I also wonder how will my central vision be affected
when it will be. What makes vision 'uncorrectable'
after a stage? For example you are considered legally
blind if after correction it is no more than 20/200.
But why cannot the eye be corrected always? Is it a
technological limitation or something fundamental to
the eye?
Thanks,
Vinod
