positive attitude   Message List

Sometimes it is hard to always keep a positive attitude. There are many days
when people who have no physical problems have "down days" so it is
understandable that I sometimes have a "down day". I find that the loss of
strength in my hands and arms bothers me much more than the loss of my
sight. And now there is a lot of back pain that I also find myself a little
upset about.
Even there I try to keep as much of a positive attitude as possible. I do
this for two reasons 1st my sanity and 2nd for my grandson. Christian is 12
years old and also has RP.
He often says that Pop Pop can fix anything, sure wish that was true. But
the point that he now understands is that even with a eyesight problem you
still can do whatever you set your mind.
Right now I am finishing building a TV stand for his house. He often states
that he thinks that it is neat that I can't see and can build things that
people who can see, can not build.
One of the first things that my wife learned, was to say that I can't do
something because I can't see. At that point it becomes a big challenge for
me to prove her wrong.
People often asked me why I went skydiving. Well I had that urge since
early childhood and when I found the opportunity I went for it. I often tell
Karen and other family members that I would rather do something and get hurt
than sit in a corner and have the attitude that I can't do that because I am
blind.
I don't often post on this list but just thought I would share some of my
thoughts. I know that some of the stories on my web page have helped people
all around the world. I hope that this post will help some on this list. I
am not saying that keeping a positive attitude is easy, but for me it is the
only way to exist.
Years ago when I had some vision, I joked that I have enough sight to get in
trouble and not enough to get out of it.
I now wear a hat that I have "blind people feel better" embroidered on it.
Funny how many people do not understand the pun.
