Hi Diane, welcome to the group. I HAD CATARACT surgery in 2992. I couldn't
believe the difference. The colors are brighten, I didn't need glasses for far
distance just for reading. I was very happy with the results. But alas, my RP
got worse and I am legally blind but it was good for a little while. Go for it.
I don't think you will regret it. Good luck. Lois

Hi,
My name is Diane from Tennessee. I am new to this group and have a question. I
have RP, diagnoses in 88, I have cataracts as I understand goes along with this
disease and was wondering if anyone has had cataract surgery. I have cataracts
both in the front and back of both eyes and my doc. says he doesn't expect any
complications but as you all know when you don't have alot of vision left it is
a little scary to think you might have a possibility of losing even more. I
would like to hear your experiences, good and bad, about cataract surgery with
RP. My surgery is not til May but I have a consult next week so I would like to
know what questions I need to ask. Thanks for your response. It is nice to have
a place to go to ask questions about this really rare disease. Diane

I had cataract surgery in 2003. I was told that people with RP tend to develop cataracts at an earlier age. The surgery won't cure your RP of course, but it...
