I believe your doctor is accurate. You are intensely tight in your neck and shoulders and nerves that start there are being pinched. I'd like to hear what exercises the doctor gave you. Meanwhile, do relaxation and lengthening and you might try seeing a hypnotherapist to learn to relax your upper body. That worked for me.
When i sit at the computer for long periods, my whole upper body tenses due to staring.

Definitely get another opinion... The tingling in your fingers is caused by the swollen nerves. As is the burning and pain. If the exercises hurt, don't do...
