RE: [repetitivestrain] cast question

Hi Carolyn,

When you broke the radius the muscles that run down the outside of your forearm all contracted suddenly.  When the bone was set, the muscles were stretched out to fit, but the trigger points that formed during the contraction are still there.  The cast pressing into the wrist area is one problem, the tight muscles is another one that will give the same symptoms.  If you have some room in the cast to rub arnica gel on the muscle, that will help.  Hopefully your doctor will be able to adjust the cast so it isn't pressing on the wrist area.

When the cast comes off, be sure you have all of the forearm muscles thoroughly massaged, going in the direction toward your wrist.

Hope that helps you a bit.  Arnica is great for easing pain.

Wishing you well,
     Julie

Subject: [repetitivestrain] cast question

Hi

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel 20 months ago.  I had deep tissue
massage and acupuncture, did the exercises and retired early (at 55).
Doing okay until I broke my arm (radius) last Monday.  The temp cast has
been pressing on my tunnel and seems to be aggravting a nerve(tendon) on
the inside of my arm, just above the wrist.
It's a sugar tong cast, so there is a gap and Ive tied to ease it a bit.
I get a new one on Tuesday.  I think they will need to have a hole for the
carpal tunnel, but what about the area on the inside of the arm (just
above the inside of the wrist).

Carolyn
