Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Hi Carolyn,

You are right that you don't need surgery.  You have repetitive strain injury of the muscles in your arm/hand and probably also in a muscle called pec's minor.  I had such severe CTS that I couldn't even open a door or pick up a glass, so I can certainly understand your pain.  The worst thing was I couldn't hold my baby granddaughter (I almost dropped her when my arm went numb!).

Fortunately, after also being told I needed surgery, I began to examine the muscles that cross over the median nerve.  I found the spasms that were pressing into the nerve, treated them myself and the pain went away 100%.  That was 7 years ago.  Now the National Institute of Health is planning of doing a full clinical research because the treatment has worked for 100's of people, preventing all of them from having surgery.

Before we talk any further, you will get a lot of information at our website: www.aboutwristpain.com.  Look through the entire site, read the testimonials, and then go to the section called "Anatomy Lessons".  You will then understand why these muscles cause the pain, and why you have been diagnosed with CTS.  Your job, and you exercise, are doing it, but you don't need to stop either of them. The muscles that would cause a positive nerve conduction test are the Flexors, the Extensors and the Opponens Pollicis. I'm a deep muscle therapist and I work powerfully with my hands and arms.  Be encouraged that you can reverse this problem.

BTW, another website that will explain pain in all the other parts of your body except the wrist/hand is www.julstro.com.  If you read the forum you will see how people are responding to these deep muscle self treatments, and when you read "Muscles and Pain" you'll have more knowledge about why muscles can cause pain at a joint.  Transfer your understanding of the forearm (flexor and extensor)  muscles that you gained at the CTS site, to the explanation on the Julstro site.

I look forward to speaking to you after you go through the websites.

Wishing you well,
      Julie

Hi
I am 53 and recently diagonosed with carpal tunnel in my right hand
(nerve conduction test).  My primary care doc was ready to recommend
surgery, but I want to try massage, acupuncture, ot first.  I have
worked for the Postal Service for 33 years and it's endemic to the
job.  Luckily, we seem to be getting early outs, so I should be out
by 9/30/03.

My immediate concern is my workouts. The primary care physician
didn't seem to think they needed to be limited, but the weight
machines make my arm really hurt-about 1/2 hr after I'm done.  I also
have some pain in my right bicep (a bit also in the left, but not so
much).  I have lightened the weights, decreased reps and tried just
doing them twice a week.  However, I think I should stop them
completely and go to see a sports medecine doctor.  My cts is fairly
mild (other than after the workouts) at the moment and I'm reluctant
to try surgery if I can get the other methods to work first.

Any suggestions or links are welcome.

Carolyn
