Hi, I'm new to the group. My Hand Dr. just recommended surgery 2day for
CTS. I'm in shock and am looking for options. I think he just wants to
do the surgery (he is a teaching surgeon).
History:
-Pain started early Nov. 01 (had been in temporary office for 3 mos. --
main PC too high on desk, secondary pc typing at an angle.)
-PCP visit mid Nov. 01, purchased over the counter braces & referral
-Hand dr. visit early Dec 01: presc for OT & custom braces for night
-OT & Custom braces received in jan 02 -- feeling better--no numbmess
-2nd hand dr visit Feb. 02 -- presc for day braces (minders) & EMG
-EMG (emg dr says accute & not chronic CTS, recommends 5 wks. rest)
Test results are Bilateral median and radial compression
-3rd hand dr visit--recommends surgery: I balk, then says 6 wks rest
but says I'll probably have the surgery anyway
I'm working on getting a 2nd opinion. I'm so frustrated w/ the hand dr.
Has anyone had a similar situation and didn't require surgery? My hand
dr says it would be four seperate surgeries.
I've been w/ my company for 6+ yrs. and have never had problems until
now.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. (sorry for the crazy typing, I
have to limit my keying)
