Hi, my client wants her sister to have a reflexology session. Her sister
lives out of my state - in Tobyhanna, PA - near Mt. Pocono/Camel Back/Scott
Run. Any reflexologists in that area?
Thank you.

Hi Everyone,
This message is for the Reflexologists in the USA who may have been
planning to take the national ARCB (American Reflexology
Certification Board)test on May 19th in St. Paul, MN. I was told by
members in my state association that it has been cancelled due to
lack of numbers. ARCB cancels test dates when there are less than 8
applicants. This cancellation has put a burden on these members, as
they are unable to afford travelling very far this year. I have
contacted the ARCB with this information and have also enlisted the
help of the RAA (Reflexology Association of America) in this matter.
I hope to have some resolution within a few weeks.
I suggested a couple of ideas that may be helpful for the ARCB in
planning future test dates/sites. I thought I would bring them to
the group and get your input--I know many of you have already
certified by the ARCB or are getting ready to--I would like to hear
from you.
Suggestion 1: Have ARCB testing coincide with the RAA national
conferences--same date, same site. RAA holds their conference; the
ARCB sets up on their own. There is precedence: ARCB did hold a make-
up exam at the Tucson conference. Benefits: Applicants can test,
then enjoy the conference; applicants can plan ahead for
travel/expenses on one trip, rather than two. The next RAA
conference is in May 2008.
Suggestion 2: Each state has an ARCB-trained proctor. The ARCB
sets up the training, does the training and screens potential
proctors. Would having specially-trained proctors in each state,
able to administer the national 3-part exam, lack in integrity in
any way?
I only hope that my suggestions are discussed at the next ARCB
Board meeting.
I thank you for your replies. Please, I urge those of you who are
planning on ARCB testing this year, get your application in before
the 60-day deadline (ARCB needs to have received applications and
payment 60 days prior to a test date); then check to make sure your
application has been received and your test date is still a go.
Thank you for your time.
Blessings,

Subject: TX Health Freedom Coalition Legislative Lobby
Day - A PERSONAL INVITATION!
PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL TEXANS ON YOUR E-MAIL LIST!!!
Colleagues and Friends of Texas Health Freedom,
You are cordially invited to participate in the
Texas Health Freedom Coalition's first-ever
Legislative Lobbying Day,
Monday, March 26th,7 AM to 5 PM. Headquarters are at
1005 Congress, 4th floor conference room (one block
from the capitol). Lunch will be provided. Tentative
lunch guest speaker is state Sen. Dan Patrick
(pending). We will, as a minimum, be visiting the
offices of the House Government Reform and Senate
Health and Human Services Committees, and dropping off
information packages to the remaining offices.
However, if attendance permits, we will visit ALL the
House and Senate offices to lobby for HB 3056 and
against HB 2419 and SB 1168.
Your Coalition leadership is working hard to help
prepare for this important event. The visits will be
conducted by teams, and we will coordinate the team
make-up so there will be experienced people with each
team, if at all possible. We will have ready the
materials and training for you to effectively get your
point across. But YOUR participation will be the key
to its success. You may participate in two important
ways:
1. Be a visit team member. If you volunteer, respond
to this e-mail petermccarthy@...
with the subject "TX Health Freedom Legislative Team
Volunteer." Please list who your state senator and
representative are (if you don't know, go to
http://www.texashealthfreedom.com
and click "Who's My Rep?" in the upper left corner of
the home page), plus your name and address so we can
coordinate a visit with YOUR legislator. If you are a
health professional, please list that as well, so we
can coordinate team makeup more effectively.
2. Ask the Coalition to represent you. If you can't
attend, we STILL want your voice to be heard. Respond
to this e-mail with "TX Health Freedom - Please
Represent Me!" Please use the text "I am a
constituent
of Sen. X and Rep. Y (see how to find out who in step
1. above). I authorize the TX Health Freedom Coalition
to represent me during a visit to these legislators'
offices for the purpose of expressing my support for
HB 3056 and my opposition to HB 2419 and SB 1168."
Please list your name and full address so we can
present your e-mail to your legislators when we visit,
and they can respond in writing to you. Your personal
information will NOT be used for any other purpose.
If you wish to either participate as a team member or
have the Coalition represent you, please respond to
this e-mail by close of business Wednesday, March
21st.
That's it in a nutshell, folks. We need your help,
and with it, we look forward to taking the next big
step toward health freedom in Texas!

PLEASE PASS TO ALL TEXANS ON YOUR E-MAIL LIST!!!
Colleagues and Friends of Texas Health Freedom,
Several significant developments have occurred
in a VERY short period of time:
1. The TX Health Freedom bill has been filed with the
legislature.
We expect a committee assignment very shortly.
2. The dietitians' bills (HB 2419 and SB 1168) are
assigned to the House Government Reform and Sneate
Health and Human Services Committee, respectively. No
hearing dates have yet been set.
3. Through an extraordinary confluence of
circumstances, we now have a powerful new member of
our leadership team in the person of James Jonas,
considered one of the top ten lobbyists in the
country. In lieu of his normal fee, he has asked for
our group's help in promoting two public health issues
of importance to him: support for autistic children
and effective integration of CAM modalities into the
medical community. I will share more details about
these important issues later.
4. HOW YOU CAN HELP! We need volunteers who are
constituents of the members of the above named
committees who would be willing to go with our
leadership team members to the Capitol in Austin on
short notice to lobby both for our bill and against
the dietitians' bills. The committee members are:
>>>
>>>House Government Reform:
>>>Chair: Rep. Bill Callegari
>>>Vice Chair: Rep. Jim Pitts
>>>Members: Rep. Leo Berman
>>> Rep. David Leibowitz
>>> Rep. Borris Miles
>>> Rep. Eddie Rodriguez
>>> Rep. Wayne Smith
>>>
>>>Senate Health and Human Services:
>>>Chair: Sen. Jane Nelson
>>>Vice Chair: Sen. Bob Deuell
>>>Members: Sen. Kyle Janek
>>> Sen. Robert Nichols
>>> Sen. Dan Patrick
>>> Sen. Eliot Shapleigh
>>> Sen. Carlos Uresti
>>> Sen. Royce West
>>> Sen. Judith Zaffirini
>>>
>>>Details on the legislative day will be forthcoming.
Please be prepared for a short notification. We will
have e-mail and fax instruments avaialble for all of
you by this weekend.
>>>
>>>We're moving forward. Thanks for your support!

What challenge in Texas???
There is none at this time. Reiki and Reflexology are not Massage
Therapy in the state of Texas as far as I know.
And a new house bill is in place and being passed for not regulating a
number of the different healing modalities including vitamins, and
food. There is a new group.. but I can't remember its name that is
challenging a law about the different people selling vitamins such as
Natures Sunshine saying they were diagnosing or prescribing.

There are associations everywhere in Texas just none are advertised.
I teach Reflexology, Reiki, Acupressure at San Antonio College, Cont.
Nursing Ed. In San Antonio Texas. My group is Reiki San Antonio and I
do health Fairs all over the city in many corporate offices to
introduce Reiki and Reflexology to the public.
There was a bill in Texas in 1998 to limit, and form a monolopy on
Reiki. The bill was defeated "Big Time" and since then all licensing
has stayed away from us. As long as you are certified and registered
with a legit school, then there isn't any problems.
http://www.create.org/healingarts/rnews.htm#hb367
Apparently Reflexology and acupressure fit in as well and the massage
schools don't want anything to do with it. Originally I taught Reiki
and Reflexology at a couple of Massage Schools and now they don't want
either modality because it is not continuing ed credits.
There also is a very large Acupuncture school in Austin that could be
rather challenging to State Regulations.
The interesting thing is no one will participate in a State Run
organization feeling that the Politicians would take over like they
have in so many situations. However if there is a challenge then a
crowd of people will show up in Austin to protest. Interestign state,
Texas..

This is what he is proposing - and my understanding is a bit confused because I
don't know if it's only available for 'this group' OR for the individual
reflexologist members of this group...
I think it's a great idea.. just need clarity for who is this for...
But here's his proposal:
"Here is what I propose:
1. I will create a few brochures about Reflexology (I am thinking of possibly
three: what is reflexology, benefits, and reflexology vs. foot massage
2. A series of sales letters
3. An advertorial piece or tearsheet (several pages) that can edited and
modified to meet individual needs
4. A post card series
5. A thank you letter for clients with a modest request for referrals.
6. A short 'marketing' strategy for a shoe-string budget
7. Anything else you may desire (I will take requests).
What I desire from you will be input as to what you feel you need, any
experiences you may already have, testimonials (these will be used to show
benefits of reflexology and edited to not say one particular practitioner - I
will require a release and send for approval back to each submitter), facts,
figure, etc... You know your practises better than I do. I only know my personal
benefits and text book stats from a dozen books I now own."

Dear Members,
It's spring. I have the creative bug, so here goes.
To meet the Texas challenge could we:
Organize an email campagin to contact legislators, governor or even the massage
community?
Could we recruit help through this forum? So far the RAA has very kindly
contributed.
Could we have a coalition with other modalities?
Could we amass a library of information for the Texans to use? I know there is a
finding
from
the AG's office that everybody seems to be ignoring. Also the Dept of Health
wrote an
opinion.
How can we effectively information share?
Love to hear your thoughts. Wild is okay too. It often leads to better ideas.

Good day everyone,
I must admit that I am new to this forum (a few weeks now). I find
all of your conversation very stimulating. I am learning so much! I
enjoy reflexology and have been learning all I can about it. So far
my wife and I only use it on each other and our children. I must
admit that I have no desire to open a clinic. However, that does not
stop the creative juices from flowing. You see, I am a Direct
Response Copywriting specializing in the health and healthcare
markets.
I have a proposal for the group. Please do not view this as spam. I
am offering this for free and will post them to the files section for
each person's individual use. You may individually or collectively
edit, butcher, use or toss. I simply feel this will benefit the
group.
I am unable to help so much with your issues of licensing and state
boards, but I can "help you help yourself" in building your business,
educating your clients/community and just providing some sage
marketing advice.
I am not sure how many of you actually are Reflexologists in practice
or earn money from your endeavors. If it would be beneficial for the
community I will help.
Here is what I propose:
1. I will create a few brochures about Reflexology (I am thinking of
possibly three: what is reflexology, benefits, and reflexology vs.
foot massage
2. A series of sales letters
3. An advertorial piece or tearsheet (several pages) that can edited
and modified to meet individual needs
4. A post card series
5. A thank you letter for clients with a modest request for
referrals.
6. A short 'marketing' strategy for a shoe-string budget
7. Anything else you may desire (I will take requests).
What I desire from you will be input as to what you feel you need,
any experiences you may already have, testimonials (these will be
used to show benefits of reflexolgy and edited to not say one
particular practitioner - I will require a release and send for
approval back to each submitter), facts, figure, etc... You know
your practises better than I do. I only know my personal benefits
and text book stats from a dozen books I now own.
Please let me state one again that this is for the collective group.
I am booked out at least four months in advance. I am not seeking
any new clients. I will not accept any new requests. I will be
working on this in my downtime. Some items I can generate pretty
quickly and others may take up to a few months.
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas.

Hi Everyone,
First of all I am interested in knowing how you find out what the
massage folks are planning. Just curious. I know things are not
always fair but it doesn't seem right for a group to be able to just
change laws willy-nilly to make everything fit what they want. A lot
of us have went through much time and money to get certified as
reflexologist, spent more time and money building successful
businesses. All of this because we were exempt from the massage laws.
(at least in NC where I am from) It seems to me if they want to
regulate everyone who was once exempt they would have to grandfather
all those folk in instead of just shutting down all the businesses and
leaving all our clients that rely on us to go to massage therapist that
could care less about doing reflexology in the first place. Just my
thoughts.
Chris

Subject: [Reflexology Community ] re: ideas for improving business
HI everyone,
I have been a in this group for over a month now and enjoy the wisdom
seasoned reflexologists have to offer.
I wrote an article for a small town newspaper..and ended up getting it
included in the yearly MIND, BODY,SOUL suppplement, I was delighted
that they included my name and number.
I got some business from this, and I encourage you to do same.
They might not include it in a large city paper....but some of the smaller
ones
are eager for interesting articles.
Also, I have been doing some parties for a friend that has a home based
cosmetics business. They have what is called Spa parties..with perhaps a
masseuse doing 10 minute massages, me doing 10 minute REflexology sessions,
and make up artists..or just the women selling the cosmetics...doing facials
and
such.
WE put a tip basket out saying " Tips are not necessary but appreciated"
and usually it is well worth my time and I do end up getting full sessions
booked.
Plus it is great for introducing the general public to Reflexology in general.
Also, from one of these spa parties, a woman booked me for an afternoon
birthday party for a friend. There were four of them and I ended up doing all
four of them , about 25 minutes in duration each., while they gave each other
facials..
and sat around and talked. They ended up being very generous becasue I
didnt give them a specific fee....when she asked....so ..I ended up getting
much
more than I expected or would ever have asked.
Also, you could check at hair salons , ( which is where I first had my intro
session
long ago) nail salons, or anything else that would be open to you doing mini
teaser
sessions...to get business..
I always give them a copy of the article explaining REflexology and my card..
So, there must be someone you know who has a home based business that
books these parties...like Pampered Chef, Southern Home, or any one of the
many businesses that book parties. The women realize that when they can
include on the invitation , a complimentary foot massage given by a
Reflexolgist,
they end up getting more people to come ......to their parties.
And if you dont, you could always just go to a Site of one of the many
businesses and find women in yoru area that are affiliated with it..I even
went to
a jewelry party once to do mini sessions.
IT is a great way to meet women and network.
Good Luck ,
Diann

I recently read a very interesting article having to do with feedforward
concepts and
business managers.
Feedforward is a concept in physiology. Our brains receive feedback from the
environment. Then our brains feed forward information in anticipation of the
next move.
The most common form of this information is muscular tension. We receive cues as
to the
next step we are going to take and our brains ready the body for that next step.
This article was speaking in another vein which is that mangers in company using
feedforward concepts for better management. While managers do need feedback
from
their workers they also need to think into the future and feedforward their
ideas on what
the future should be to their subordinates. More than simply goals it is a whole
image of
what the future should bring.
That gave me an idea of feeding forward my ideas on what the future will bring.
It is not
exactly fortunetelling. More it is an expansion on trends we see developing.
What do you
anticipate happening in the future in regards to reflexology? Let's hear your
thoughts.
Feedforward thoughts- What I anticipate for the future for Reflexology
(1) Government will backed our efforts in both research and implementation of
reflexology
in health care. Some governments (Denmark and China as examples) are already
doing it
as a cost savings program.
(2) Reflexology will move into academia as a field on study.
(3) Business will adopt reflexology in their health care plans, stress reduction
programs
and as a creative tool for their creative departments.
(4) Hospitals will use reflexology routinely for patient comfort and to shorten
patient stays.
Staff programs will be targeted at stress reduction.
(5) Entertainment industry will use reflexology to help with their creative
efforts.
(6) Computer industry will use it creatively as well to promote innovation.
Reflexology will
be seen as a way to think outside the box.
(7) The Spa industry will see the opportunity of moving reflexology from a feel
good
service to a therapeutic service.
(8) Insurers will pay for reflexology for certain conditions that are not all
that treatable
with conventional medicine.
(9) Space agencies will look at reflexology as a method of maintaining health in
zero
degree gravity. It will also be looked at as a way to deal with pain, anxiety
and depression
on long space flights.
(10) Senior citizen programs will routinely use reflexology for stability, pain,
anxiety and
depression. The government will fund these efforts.
(11) Schools will use reflexology for for developing children's body awareness
and
improving their cognitive skills. It will be particularly helpful in working
with adolestants in
the treatment of anxiety and depression.
12) Technological diagnosis will be on the front end of reflexology sessions. It
will not be
Western style diagnosis rather it will be a reflexological assessment of the
body stresses.
Kevin,
Sorry for the delay. Yes you may post RAA's message. We are working on a form
letter that all
reflexologist can use to fight this bill. We will post it on our web site
(www.reflexology-
usa.org) hopefully early next week. The massage folks have been very busy
lately re-working
their definition of massage to include everyone, so now is the time for all of
us to come
together.
RAA is open to all reflexologist no matter where they have studied or what
method they use.
We are trying to build our professional membership so we can have a stronger
voice when it
comes to legislative issues. One of our goals is to create harmony throughout
our profession
by welcoming all methods of training and working together to assure we can
practice
separately from massage.
Thank you for all you do for the Reflexology community with your web site. It is
very
informative and helpful to the practicing reflexologist.
Peace,
Virginia Farwell
RAA Legislative Chair.
Kevin,
The five states I'm referring to are:
Oregon – just had a hearing last week
New Hampshire – had a hearing last week
Montana – still in the writing phase
New York – still in writing stage
Idaho – individuals looking at a massage bill which would exempt reflexology
(still in
formation)
It is time for all of us stand to together and speak out for our right to
practice separate
from massage. The public knows the difference and they are asking for it by
name. RAA is
working on form letters which we would like to be able to make available to your
community as well as RAA. I will be in touch.
Peace,
Virginia
Good idea, but I am sure we can open and expand on this topic here.

I'm certainly interested in all that. Is there a reason we can't have that on
this group, without starting another? It would seem there would be a fair
amount of overlap.
