Re: [Reflexology Community ] Reflexology at the Farmers' Market

Hi Winona,

I am so glad to be able to be of service!

Some more details will hopefully answer your
questions.

First the charging question.

I got the idea one day when I had barely cleared
$50 all morning with my plants and botanicals,
and down the road a guy new to town had set up
with Thai massage and Thai reflexology, and he
did quite well.
He had just moved here from a larger center and
was charging a loonie a minute.

Quite frankly, I thought that was highway
robbery and in the beginning I charged $10 for
15 min.

At the end of the day I was quite tired and
in the case of one market, where I had to drive
to and pay a fee, it was barely worth it.

So I decided to see what happened when I
upped the price. Let me tell you, nobody
batted an eye! This is the going rate for tourists
from the cities, and locals can always come to my
home office and get the lower rate.

Interesting note: If I go overtime with the
$10 for 15 min. deal, nothing happens.
Once someone is in the chair I tend to get
carried away and often spend more time.

When I charge by the minute, even when
I tell them the time after the 'ping' is on me,
clients usually insist on paying a tip.

I use my trusty FlyLady timer to keep an eye
on the time, works great. (http://FlyLady.net)
I set it after the feet are clean when the actual
work begins.

As for people not getting the full benefit:
I totally agree that they are less likely to feel the
deep relaxation they get in a healing room.
But most of them are in vacation mode and just
relax right into it. They'll sit there with a big
grin and tell passers-by they got to try this!

I have a canopy with a table in front with information
on it. The table provides some screening and a sense
of private space. Extra privacy is also offered by some
sheets I attach to the sides as sun screen.

The sign says: Demonstration Session.

I have had several people get a short demo, and
then book a full session later at my place.
Overall, it has been a great experience for all parties.
Now if we could please have a few more weeks of
summer?
