Many thanks to Kathy and Stacy for offering to help! As Stacy has
already started work on a donation form (application for those wishing
to donate funds), and I have come up with an application form for those
hoping to receive the scholarships, I would greatly appreciate if Kathy
started working on a form for those of us who want to serve on the
selection committee. Thanks so much for your continued help, Miss
Sparkle (thus named because she was so much fun at the annual
conference)! Anyone who has any more input or suggestions is more than
welcome to post!
Thanks, also, to Bev for keeping our fund in the newsletter. You
continue to help so many of us! Take care, Jen

Hello! Hope everybody on this list had a great holiday season. I
have been working on the application forms that we need for our RDI
Scholarship fund. I have made good progress on the application to
receive the scholarship funds. Is anybody on the list able or willing
to help come up with a form for those wishing to donate money, or a
form for those who wish to be part of the selection committee? Thanks
so much to those willing to help.
These forms will eventually become part of the link to the
scholarship fund through Fact Family's website.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or time to volunteer
to help out! Take care, Jen

Hello! Happy holidays to all. I am still waiting for sharing of ideas
from this group-- maybe everyone is just too busy at this time of year!
Speaking of too busy, I am looking for help from our group from
someone who might be able to compose applications to go on the Fact
Family website (Linda Andron emailed me, and said the website should be
ready soon). Anyone out there willing to help compose applications (we
need an application for donating money, application for getting the
scholarship, and application for joining the selection committee)?
Anyone out there able to help with any of the above (my typing skills
are pretty poor)?
Hope that someone out there is still interested in getting
involved.... please let me or the group know your ideas. Thanks, Jen

Hey, Bev. Thanks for getting the discussion going! I would love to
hear everyone's thoughts on these questions. I think that we should
encourage anyone who is interested to apply for scholarship money.
Hopefully, someday, a significant amount of money will be available.
Perhaps our committee members will review each individual
application, with the decision on whom gets the money depending on a
combination of need and dedication.
For example, a family with limited amount of funds but have been
doing RDI for a year might receive preference to a family with a
similar income who is just starting out. What do you guys think? I
guess we will have to work on specifics once we have some money
available.
By the way, Linda Andron emailed me back this week, and said that
their group (Fact Family) can accept mailed donations at any time.
The email donation link is still pending.
Thanks to everyone who is taking time to share ideas! Take care, Jen

HI Learne,

for, will this be a capped amount.

I guess these will all be decided by the Selections Committee, but I don't see
any reason
why we can't start discussing ideas ... I'm wondering if there will be any
*requirements* for
applying in the first place, and how the committee would possibly be able to
choose from
amongst the deserving families if there is more need than monies available??
Would it be a
"lottery" (ie just a draw?)

BTW, are tax receipts able to be issued yet? Maybe we need to remind people to
make a
donation before the end of the year to get a tax receipt for 2006?

Hello Learne and Anthony! Welcome! We certainly look forward to
your input.
Your questions are all good ones. As we appear to be still waiting
to hear from Fact Family (the nonprofit that has generously offered
to help us accept donations and award any scholarships). Their group
was looking into how to make donations very easy (by mail or
website). I haven't heard from Linda Andron in a few weeks, but
emailed her today. I will let all of you know an update as soon as I
do.
In the interim, I think our group should consider all the questions
that Learne and Anthony asked. I initially wanted to help start the
fund in order to help families obtain a consultant, because the
upcoming information system will be limited to those who have a
consultant (at least, that was the announcement at August's Annual
Meeting). However, I believe a worthy family should be able to use
the Scholarship whatever way they think it would be most helpful (I
imagine there are a lot of families sacrificing everything else so
they can pay for their consultant).
Any comments from our group would be greatly appreciated! I will
update everyone as soon as the Fact Family people contact me. Take
care, Jen

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to let you all know as of today,  the total Mary Kay sales is 227.50,  which means I will donate $45.50 to the scholarship fund.

I was hoping for a better *showing* for a great cause,  but I guess every little bit helps.

Hi all

We are an Australian couple who have a 5-year old son and we have been doing RDI
now
for nearly 2 years. We started at stage 0 and are now stuck between stage 3 & 4
using a US
consultant. Basically this progress has meant that our family can go out from
our home
now and socialise without everyone having a complete meltdown. Patrick will also
start
Kindy next year without an aid. We are so grateful for having found out about
RDI before
we had started any other therapies.

In Australia there is NIL funding available for a program or other programs for
that matter.
You can only receive services if you go through government channels and these
services
are inadequate to say the least, they tend to keep our kids autistic and have
long waiting
lists.

We know that it has been mentioned that the RDI Scholarship fund will include
international families but we wanted to know on what terms this would be. I have
heard
that your funding wont include people being able to attend the seminar or parent
training run by the connections centre in the US, Why not?

Our hope is that the funding will cover and include airfare to the US to attend
the
valuable parent training (which connections centre so strongly advises and we
agree), First
RDA's carried at the Connections centre and then follow on consultants fees
(either
consultants based in OZ or US). What will be the acceptance guidelines for
families? How
will you decide who gets funding and who doesn't? How long will the funding be
available
for, will this be a capped amount.

Thanks
Learne & Anthony

Hi everybody,

this is great! I am going to include it in the body of the newsletter (interview of Jen, as
Head of Start-up committee) plus try to put it into the top spot of the newsletter, just as
we did w/ Oceans of Emotions. Eventually, when there are too many to mention (!) we'll get
a special section of the newsletter for these, plus get it onto the web site on a
"Scholarship Fund" page ... will have to see if/ how that could be done.

thanks again, Kathy !

hey! I am still a Juice Plus distributor .. hmm.. wonder if I should try to do something
similar ??

Hey, Kath-- we are definitely interested in accepting donations from
people's sales! That certainly could mean a lot of money for the
fund. I applaud you and others like you who are able to do so.
By the way, still waiting to hear from Linda Andron (Fact Family)
about when we will be able to accept online donations (this may be the
easiest way to accept money). I emailed her a couple of days ago, so
I expect to hear soon. I found a company that is able to establish an
online donation account for nonprofits, so hopefully we will be able
to get that going thru Fact Family.
Thanks to everyone who ordered from Oceans of Emotions. I also
ordered the flags (Rob is limited in verbal skills). We'll see if we
get anyone else who is willing to be so generous.
   Take care, Jen

Some ideas for our policies(ie: a work in progress):
1. The Start-up Committee should be made up of volunteers who wish to
help the fund get started. These members may continue long-term to
assist in fundraising and give general suggestions on how funds may be
distributed (ie: ultimately, how many and how much scholarship money
is distributed).
2. Start-up Committee members may or may not be members of the
Selection Committee. The Selection Committee shall be elected to
select which families receive the scholarships.
3. Start-up Committee members (synonymous with this yahoo groups)
shall be eligible to receive scholarships.
4. Selection Committee members will not be eligible to receive
scholarships.
Just my suggestions-- any comments on the above? Take care, Jen

hahahaha, oh we get to make up the rules? OK, well if we are looking for more
committee
members, how about we advertise that those who agree to be on the committee, get
first
dibs at scholarships?!

seriously, one of my concerns is that serving on the committee will be an
automatic
disqualification for eligibility ... I think maybe the START-UP Committee might
need to
come up w/ some general guidelines, so that folks at least know if letting their
name
stand on the actual committee or not, might mean they will never be eligible for
a
scholarship ... ( to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest) ....

for an upcoming newsletter. Thanks, Bev! Take care, Jen

Hi everybody! :o)

A burning question I had: Are committee members eligible to receive
scholarships??
(Someone I had been wanting to nominate first for a scholarship seems to already
be on
the committee! )

Hey, Kathy.... great ideas! Would love to see multiple sources of
donations rather than being married to just a few companies. I will
email Bev and see if she would be able to help us out. We could
encourage others to be as open-minded/generous as Kathy- (btw, Kathy-
- email me how I might get cosmetics thru you-- I need all the help
I can get!).
Also, we might be able to get people to consider approaching their
corporations for corporate donations. Perhaps we will be able to
suggest this also.
I am waiting to hear from Dr. G about ways to contact Connections
Center members directly, but I think the Newsletter is a great
idea. Keep them coming! Jen

Would Bev put a section in the newsletter titled something like * ways
to support the RDI scholarship fund* and list the different ways
everyone can support them....

I was thinking about selling the bright minds books....and I am
already a Mary Kay consultant. Both of those I would be happy to
contribute a percentage of the order, all the time(no time frame).

If we could get Tupperware involved and pampered Chef, then we will
have it made :):)

What does everyone think? I also think I know someone who sells
discovery toys, and party lite candles, LOL Nowadays, there are
website addresses for everything, so virtual *parties* are very
common!

Hey-- Linda Andron told me that Oceans of Emotions (web address
oceansofemotions.com) has offered to donate 10% of their profits to
the RDI scholarship fund. The Santa Monica company offers some neat
stuff for kids with ASD. Check it out and let us know what you think!

I am still waiting to hear from Linda when we will be able to accept
donations thru Fact Family. Have a great weekend, Jen

Hello. I would like to welcome our committe members to our new
group. Hopefully, by working together, we will be able to increase
access to RDI for many families.
Through the hard work of Linda Andron and Fact Family, we will soon
be establishing an RDI scholarship fund. Within the next couple of
weeks, we will be able to accept donations; subsequently, we will be
accepting scholarship applications.
Any ideas for fundraising would be greatly appreciated. One idea
Linda has is to use our childrens' artwork to create unique stationary
(would potentially make a great holiday gift idea). Linda has been in
contact with a group who may be able to take care of receiving the
artwork and producing the stationary for us. She is one creative,
hardworking person!
Thanks again to all of you, and please feel free to share any
comments or suggestions you might have. Take care, Jen
