Just joined this group although thinking it will end up off of Yahoo
and into the new OS soon? Either way, I had an idea to put out a
plead for donations at the Annual Conference. Most people walking
around the Confernce will have an extra $5 in their pocket. I'm not
sure how the group works or what information is out there yet; but I
was thinking if you picked and presented 2 families requests for
sholarships (if Dr. G. would give you the mike (microphone) for 5
minutes), you could read thier stories and say something like, "just
$5 from each person here would start this child off to attain quality
of life, love and happiness" and $10 from each person here could do
that for both of these families", etc...
I also think if you pass around a bucket so that as it fills, people
can see it; then you count it and announce the next day how much; and
this actually motivates people to donate more or gives people a
second chance to donate if they didn't get to do so the first day.
This can be done at both the professional and family days. This is a
fast easy way to collect close to $1000.
I also think we could create a page or spot on the CC website where
there is the thermometor with the goal for $$s and push it up for
every $100 that gets donated. The Walk far for NAAR people made it
possible for parents to individualize that particular thermometer and
send it to family and friends asking for donations. We could do the
same. So for example if I had a thermometor that I sent to my list
of family and friends and said the donation was in my son's
name/honor; then I beleive they would donate. Adds a personal
touch. I know about 200 people in email myself that I could reach
out to for a $5 (or more donation). I beleive I have the email from
a couple of families who did it with the Autism walk and I'm sure
there are people inside at the CC that could create the thermometor
on the website. If someone in this group is from the CC; do you have
contact inside to ask if thier web people could do this. If so, I
could send the Autism Walk personalized emails with the thermometor
to that person. I'm sure also that they are set up to accept credit
