One thing that would also help a lot is if there was a link to scholarship/donation information on the RDI website at the left of the page with all the other links, right now it is very hard to find the scholarship information.
I think it would also be worthwhile to seriously look into whether we could partner with someone like bank of america to offer and RDI credit card. I know it is also possible for people to set up many of their local grocery store reward cards to benefit an organization of their choice, we might look into the logistics of that as well.
I am not a good person for coming up with creative fundraising ideas or making people enthusiastic about donating money, but I do know that anything we can do to make the donation process easier and more visible will help. Another thing that may be worth looking into is partnering with the consultants, it may be possible to do something like have the consutlants include a little box on the consultant agreement that asks if you would like to pay an extra 5$ to go toward the scholarship fund (kind of like those boxes on the federal income tax forms that ask if you want to give extra to pay down the debt or whatever). A lot of people may make donations in that situation, since it involves no extra effort on their part and the amount of the donation is honestly trivial with respect to the cost of the consultant services. I am not sure what kind of extra adminstrative burden that would place on the consultants though, but it is probably still worthwhile to have the consultants publicize (in a non-agressive way) the exsitence of the scholarship fund.
I think we should also pursue the t-shirt idea. I think we could make a customized white t-shirt for under 5$ (my sister is starting up a homebased t-shirt business, so I could get advice about this, or who knows, she might be able to make the t-shirts), and colored ones for a little bit more. In addition to shirts with various RDI slogans, a really cute idea is to provide shirts with user-provided images, such as a picture of your kid, or your child's artwork, etc.

What about the RDI walk day that was discussed earlier? If there were several walks spearheaded throughout the country then we could make some serious money for the fund in one day.

Many thanks again to Kathy, Penny, and Heidi for volunteering to be
on the selection committee. Others are welcome, but I think the 4 of
us should be able to get things rolling.
I agree with Heidi that 500 may not be enough to make a true
difference. Unfortunately, we may not have much more than that in
the fund unless we are able to raise more serious money. Perhaps we
should wait and see-- the donation link on Fact Family gives people a
pretty easy way to donate (I, personally, love being able to point
and click, and have it be finished).
I am hoping that one of you wants to lead the charge for
fundraising. What a wonderful purpose this fund gives those that
help out!
