Important for all animal lovers-Bill S-203
Hello animal lovers!
The animals need your voice more than ever right now. Please send a letter to your MP now!
Canadian Members of Parliament will soon debate Bill S-203. This weak
and flawed animal cruelty legislation would increase penalties for the
less than 1% of animal abusers who are convicted, but does nothing to improve the SPCA's ability to prosecute. Under this bill, the majority of
animal abusers will go unpunished.
We dodged a huge bullet In-House on Friday, Mar.14th, where S-203 was not fast-tracked by the Conservatives. However, from March 31st to mid-April, they will resume, and their intention is to take S-203 to third and final reading, and push it through despite mass public opposition.
However, we have one final opportunity to stop Bill S-203! MPs need to
understand that their constituents are demanding stronger and more
effective legislation that truly protects animals from horrific acts
of cruelty.
Every humane society, SPCA and animal welfare group in the country
opposes Bill S-203 because it retains the same loopholes and
ambiguities that exist in our 1892 legislation. Join us and voice your
concerns with Bill S-203 by sending a letter to your MP today.

Wild @ Heart Canada is currently organizing a Toronto rally with Animal Rights Kollective II and Cause for Paws. Please mark your calendars.
Other rallies are being organized in other cities including Montreal
and Vancouver.

Toronto Rally Against Bill S-203
"CANADIANS FOR EFFECTIVE ANIMAL CRUELTY LEGISLATION"
Date: Sunday, March 30
Time: 2pm
Location: Toronto (exact address to be announced)
************************** ************************** *
The Cause for Paws Toronto team is actively supporting the rally, and they have started a campaign to personally contact 80 Liberal MPs to ensure they understand the differences between the Bills. We need solid, dedicated advocates to join them from the regions - 905 and north - who can dedicate time to help us contact MPs and media players in person.
We need every single advocate we can get to:
- attend the rally (bring your children, spouses, colleagues, siblings, friends, neighbors, lovers, parents, but please, not your furry friends)
- distribute pamphlets locally at vets, dog parks, community events, supermarkets, etc.(we'll issue print versions shortly over internet)
- to contact MPs personally by telephone to educate, raise awareness and urgency
- to contact print, television and radio outlets in person, and educate them as to why S-203 is NOT going to help animals or respect Canadian voters
We need change. We need a criminal code which actually reflects Canadian values. This isn't just about animals anymore; by ignoring C-373 and passing S-203, the Canadian government is not only telling us that they do not care about animals, but that they do not respect the wishes of the Canadian people. This is the only opportunity in the last one hundred years that we have to change cruelty laws for animals in Canada. Please do not assume others are doing the critical work that we need you to do. There's only so much this electronic network can accomplish by word of mouth! We need hands on volunteers and coordinated, responsive, consistent, professional effort, and we need it now. Please join us, ARK II, and Cause for Paws and commit to some support and action.
Over 90% of Canadians want stronger animal cruelty legislation in Canada. Please inform yourselves by reviewing below hotlinks, or by calling/emailing us with your questions.
