Welcome Home Cormorant Day
A Special Earth Day Celebration

Where: Ward’s Island, The Rectory Cafe

When: Sunday April 23, 2006
Time: 11am to 4pm
The tip of the Leslie Spit in downtown Toronto is home to one of the most diverse waterbird colonies on the Great Lakes, and an important stopover site for thousands of migrating birds.
Two “Welcome Home Cormorant Day” celebrations will be held this spring.  The first on Sunday April 23, 2006 will observe colonial waterbirds such as Double-crested Cormorants, Ring-billed Gulls and Black Crowned Night Herons as they prepare their nesting sites and begin incubating their eggs.
The second “Welcome Home Cormorant Day” event will be held at the end of May (TBA) after young chicks are visible in their nests.
The perfect view of this amazing natural phenomenon is from Ward’s Island.  Viewing scopes and binoculars will be available on site as will members of the Toronto Ornithological Club to describe the many variety of birds.
Please join us and discover a little wilderness in downtown Toronto.
