Jenn/ Re: Indiana Goat Farmers?   Message List

Thanks Jenn! What kind of fencing do I need to keep the goats in. I hear they can get out of anything. Right now we have an electric fence 6 strands high with every other strand having power. The front fence is a wooden fence, and we already know we will have to add extra to that because the spaces are too large. When we built the fence we did not have goats in mind!...LOL

I don't know about horse but I have a friend who runs her goats with
her dairy cows.  I will be doing that in the future as soon as I get
my goat fence up.  She said steers and cows are ok, heifers can be a
little wild for the goats.  Just make sure they have enough space.
Oh, and you might want to look at La Manchas for temperament and
consistent good quality milk. Yes, I'm biased.<G>

We use "combo panels" rather than "cattle panels". The combo panels are graduated, whereas the cattle panels are uniform. That is the squares in the bottom...

For gates, I just cut the vertical off the end and wrap the horizontals around the t-post. I make sure the ends face back towards itself so the goats can't...

I know we've tried various kinds of fencing in the past, and combo panels are by far my favorite. It's expensive to do a pasture with them though. They are...

I use combo panels too. My hubby likes them for easy installation but it is expensive to do large areas. I wish I could find them for $17/panel!!! They are...

What has worked best for us is 6 strands of high tensile with every other wire hot, starting with the top hot and going down. We've put the bottom ground wire...

It's called woven wire or farm or field fencing around here, but the "goat fencing" has 4" x 4" openings. To help with the goats getting their horns caught in...

We cut panels to fit our gate opening, too. But we attach ours with U- staples (large; they hammer in). This allows the gate to swing wonderfully. We use...
