Hi jane,

Have you checked out www.whyquit.com? There is a lot of information there
that will help you and stories of what happens to people who smoke. Also
try going to www.quitnet.com, there are forums and there is a chat function
that allows you to talk to people in real time that have quit or are trying
to quit. I have found it very helpful in times of a crave to talk to people
going through the same thing.

I quit 6 weeks ago and am getting by day by day. I hope that you have found
that information helpful!

Jer

Subject: [quitsmoking] New to Group

Hi everyone --

I am new to the group. I have smoked for many years and finally quit one
week ago today (Sunday). I'm doing pretty well with my quit, overall. I had
kind of a rough day yesterday and the day before. I felt pretty depressed.
But, this morning I feel better.

I'm glad to join the group. I look forward to sharing experiences and
helping in any way I can.

Jane
Six days, 17 hours, 5 minutes and 51 seconds. 134 cigarettes not smoked,
saving $36.24. Life saved: 11 hours, 10 minutes.

Don't worry about slipping... just keep focusing on trying. I started taking
Chantix and did very good for 10 days. Heart burn and stomach cramps and then
muscle cramps got me down. Girlfriend has been on Chantix and is almost
complete with the program with ZERO side effects. The 11th day after I quit was
the day I fell weak. I was alone out on a service call. I had even taken a
different route that morning to avoid going by the convenience store to avoid
the temptation for buying cigarettes. Around lunch time I got hungry so went by
a convenince store for a cola and snack... fell weak and got a pack of smokes.
I finished up the pack in 5 days. I made it almost through the 6th day without
a smoke but late in the day I fell weak and bought another pack. Today is the
7th day and I've already had 3 cigarettes today so I can see the hook coming and
myself getting weaker and being drawn back into the addiction to nicotine. So,
last night I started taking Chantix again, 1/2 pill at a time. I took another
1/2 this morning and will take another tonight. I'm not stressing over the
smoking... I'm getting chantix back up to regular levels in my system and hope
that I can tolerate it better this time. I'm trying to control my cravings and
the number of cigarettes to make this pack last as long as possible with the
goal of quitting again when this pack is finished. It is very important to me
to quit... for one thing, I just hate being OWNED by an addiction and I don't
like the fact that I am on the wrong side of something that has very much become
socially unacceptable... regardless of the health effects or the benefits of
smoking. I found that I really do enjoy smoking but I've got to also recognize
and get my head round the fact that I hate what it does to me, how it owns me,
how I am a slave to it. I don't need it and sure as hell don't need the
inconvenience, stench and nastiness that goes with it.

Yeah... I need to COMPLETELY QUIT and quit playing like I want to quit.  I hate
to be defeated once more!  I don't like the guilt of losing this battle.  I
don't like lots of things about smoking but then I find myself enjoying smoking
only to hate myself afterwards... like going on a bad date and having sex with a
woman I really regret knowing afterwards... yuck!!!!  So, I guess I can compare
cigarettes to a fat ugly woman who stinks and everything about here is just
WRONG!

Don't put yourself on a guilt trip. Just love yourself enough to know you are
worth the best you you can be. You are worthy of being healthy. I think
sometimes smoking can be a way of saying to yourself I am not good enough and
that is so untrue.

DO IT !!! I quit in March after smoking for 40 years. Yes, it is very hard and
extremely uncomfortable, but if I can do it, anyone can. Every day that I go
without a cigarette is a day that I am extremely proud of myself. I have even
started noticing how much people who smoke reek. Ugh. You can do it.

Good luck. I quite June 6th, but have to admit, I am using electronic
vapor cigarettes. It's still hard, but I am doing it. 36 yrs a
smoker. I did quite for 2 years in 02 and again for 2 years in 06. I
think the NRT will keep it permanent this time. No way I could go cold
turkey, even though they say that is the best.

Again.....good luck, you can do it!

For the subscribers that are new. If you want to keep track of how long
you have been quit, you can download a meter that runs in your task
bar. Go to www.silkquit.org
The meter is free. Haven't checked the site lately, but think it is
still on there.

Sure there are all kinds of product out there, but in my mind it's just
substituting one for the other. The best thing is will power, be passionate

I decided to quit after 15 yrs of smoking. I just decided i was done and
eveything has been going great until recently. I've become really emotional,
have trouble sleeping and have become extremely paranoid. I don't know what to

Jennifer, how long have you been "not smoking?" If it has been real recent, you
will just have to bite the bullet for a little while. You are going through drug
withdrawal. Nicotine is a very powerful drug. The tobacco companies don't
advertise that. I felt just awful for about 2-3 weeks after I quit cold turkey
in March. Just hang in there. The physical symptoms are about as bad as the
emotional ones. Every day you go without smoking is 1 more day of victory for
YOU. I quit after 40 years. You can do it. Just be strong...and tough. If you
believe in a higher power, prayer helps. Try to avoid situations where in the
past, you would have lit up a cigarette. I know it's hard. I experienced almost
all of the same symptoms as you did. It is much better now. Just hang in there.

Emotions are buttons in our mind, and they relate to some experience.
Nicotine
soothes our anxieties. Being at peace helps overcome the urge. But we quit, and
quit till
we overcome, and each quit makes us stronger. Don't give up! I'm always saying
to meself:
"No anxieties, no anger, no anguish...nothing to worry about!" When ever I get
upset or frustrated, I repeat that a few times and eventually I become calm
enough to deal with things. So meditate, pray, or medicate, what ever works. God
bless, and good luck.
