I"m new to this group, and this is a "new" quit for me. I've had a couple of
long smoke free times in the past, but blew the last one about a year ago.

I've been smoke free for 36 days now, and getting a little stronger every day.
I'm using patches, and just went to step 2 yesterday. It was not a good day, as
we're stuck inside because of the heat, and there's only so much to keep busy.

(Dana, I knew you from the other yahoo group, with Dorothy, Kelly, etc.)

But here I am.

been cleaning up the group and keeping most spammers out.

Bobbi, this is my third attempt at quitting for good...I've had a couple of nice
long ones in the past, so I know it can be done. Worrying about quitting ahead
of time is MUCH worse than actually quitting.

I've smoked most of 55 years, heavily the last few. No breathing problems yet,
but who knows what's coming? I like breathing, and I like the extra money more
than I like smoking. Patches work well for me, but attitude means more than
anything.

As for the counter, I think Silkquit.com has the best one. I'm new at this
site, and haven't downloaded it yet.

Stay strong.

Hi

If you like me and many other people, you have had problems trying to
quit smoking.

Now I am not sure about you but I have looked everywhere trying anything
that would help me quit smoking. Unfortunately the world doesn’t work
that way I have tried and failed many times. That was until I found this
 site on the net!

http://amuntai.casper021qui.click2sell.eu

I followed this program and quit smoking the first time …and I’ve not
had a cigarette since.

Now I am regular non smoker enjoying my life knowing that I managed to
beat my addiction.

That is why you’ve got to get this and join us, people who kicked the
habit.

I am also getting lots of positive feedback from other people I have
told, that have tried this system

http://amuntai.casper021qui.click2sell.eu

And have had nothing but success!

Here’s an email from one happy quitter.
"The 'Quit Smoking Once And For All' system is just excellent and does
exactly what it says. I was sceptical at first as it seemed just too
easy but I gave it a shoot, followed the system and now I am smoke free
and proud to be a quitter"
Now you could be like this quitter and many others

Just click on the link below if you want you have all your quitting
smoking failures solved.

http://amuntai.casper021qui.click2sell.eu

I hope you have as much success as I and many other quitters

Hello to one and all. My name is Goldie and I live in No. Calif.

Well tomorrow is the big day for me. my day to stop smoking for over 40 years. I
need to do this for me. I did stop a long time ago but for some stupid reason I
went back to it. But I won't give up trying.

Have a wonderful weekend to one and all. And as I always say, keep a smile on
you're face, a song in you're heart and be happy.

It can be done-you can quit. I started smoking when I was about 14 years old and
truly loved to smoke. As the years went drifting by, I couldn't imagine starting
or ending the day without my "smoke". During hard times in my life I smoked up
to 3 packs a day!! About 6 years ago I realized I was a slave to cigarettes. The
Lord started speaking to me through His Word-the Bible. I love the Bible and
spending time in it. I wanted to be a slave to Jesus Christ and nothing else on
this earth. It took me a year but I finally laid that last cigarette down. I
cried.......It was a 38 year habit. I'll be celebrating my 5 year anniversary
Aug. 1 of being smoke-free. I used the patch and lots of determination. Don't
say you're trying to quit. Just say you quit. It's hard but I think the hardest
part is simply making up your mind to do it. Good luck to all of you.

Good day,

Lets face it sometimes the cigarette helps .. but here is a list of
considerations that do not recommend using it:

    1. jeopardize family / friends / colleague well demonstrated risks:
cardiovascular / cancer / syndrome lung wash-handicapped (COPD) In less
than 10 years of age (3650 days)
    2. decreased ability to do various activities
    3. you are likely if you continue to need hospital treatment very early
(treatment boring / painful / handicapping invasive, humiliating therapies
    etc. ..)
    4. nicotine dependence (which increases the risk of damaging other
    addictions: alcohol, drugs, cannabis etc.
    5. costs: (1 packet = approx. fr year 2500 with the same sum-mount a
solar panel prices falling much heating or electricity bill). I mean "more
    'money if you stop" -
    6. wrinkles: the smoker's skin more 'dry (less friends, etc. because you
    look older..
    7. Osteoporosis: bone loss, a skeleton more 'weak that increase the
chances of a fearsome femur fracture in the elderly
    8. In girls, the combination "Smoke + contraceptives" is a killer:
cardiovascular risk events (please choose "or a cigarette or the pill ..)
    9. Chronic inflammation of the airways ( cause of of tumorigenesis ..).
Remember that smoking decreases the immune system: in practice most
'influences in the winter ( think investing that money in a vaccine-20
    $-only prevents 99%' flu ..)
    10. Stinks "metal" means the smoker carries a constant smell of
rail-invest in uu smell is better (+ friends / colleagues that you avoid
    people .- etc.)
    11. Yellow stains on fingers and teeth (see above ..)
    12. Less freedom (the smoke becomes a compulsion-obsession: get to shape
    personal choices ..)
    13. More probable abortions in women, fetuses weighing less risk, white
parts (the baby is born dead)
    14. Otitis / laryngitis, bronchitis and asthma more 'probable (especially
    in children)
    15. Chronic cough (annoying for others) altered voice, angina pectoris,

Andrea,

Thank you for the reminder.

I have quit smoking a little over one year ago and for the most part I am above
nicotine now. There are times however when the stress (usually caused by
emotional upset) gets to me and I find myself craving and yearning for my old
friends, Camel Filters. My being upset seems to trump whatever damage smoking
may do. In the past I would cave in and go buy a pack of cigarettes - because I
needed them and because I deserved them.

This time however I have found what I need to help me not cave in under
pressure. I go to the quitnet chat room and when I see people who have had to
deal with the damage their smoking addiction has caused I suddenly feel like my
emotional upset is nothing compared to what they had to go through and still are
going through. I then feel so humble . . . and ashamed to even have thought
about lighting one more cigarette.

It is this sharing of personal stories and postings and e-mails that make a
world of difference and helps people like myself to get the much needed
perspective.
I am grateful for all of you who so selflessly share your stories and remind us
on what is truly important.

Thanks

*Good day Deborah,

you are welcome ,in fact we are here to help (with online "hints") people
who wantto come to terms with tobacco: the idea is simple actually. The more
you get to know about tobacco the more you realize how " old fashioned" this
habit is today..On top of that the internet offers a valuable tool for
people to share useful ideas on how to give up plus a lot of additional
information on the mischieves of this dangerous behaviour/plant (Nicotiana
tabaccum) ...Now,in your post you brought about 2 interesting points:

*

    1. *"craving" as a psychophysical phenomenon*
    2. *stress & emotional upset,as typical factors contributing to a lapse
    into the old
    habitofsmoking.

    *

*
About craving the good news is that we dispose today of a comparatively new
drug Chantix (or Champix in the US) that puts this embarassing feeling under
a new light pls have a read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chantix

Of course this substance should be administered under supervision ( and all
"mood imbalances" kept possibly under a diary"-lets remeber that abrupt
smoking cessation in selected "depression-prone "individuals, may also
harbour psychotic risks, and unfortunately nowdays nicotine addiction is
considered a "strong" addiction, not at all to be underestimated. However
Chantix will rid you of that feeling (craving, see mechanism of action of the
drug..)
Stress & emotional upset are a common situation when we smoke,we tend to
light up almost automatically-but if you often can't modify the conditions
(real events situations etc)you can learn and apply other tools fkor
controlling stress & emotional upset.

Regards

Andy

PS let me drop you some multiple choice questions to reinforce motivation,we
discuss anwsers later on..(one only answer is correct) answer those and send
them back to me for discussion..

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have the list of changes your body goes through right after you quit
smoking? Iwould like to see it again. It starts with about 8 hours after you
stop, your blood pressure decreases, etc.
Thanks!
Jane

Good day everyone,

as we know craving is a boring side effect of giving up smoking

but what can we do,in practical terms,in order to avoid this

complication? Here are a few useful hints:

- Champix and varenecline
    see:

http://www.champixinfo.co.uk/

Are you eligible for this new revolutionary drug that eliminates
craving? Have a honest discussion with your doctor who will tell if you can
profit from this incredible drug..

-- craving comes from the french "crever" meaning longin for ..
wanting with passion something..this means that you should
avoid for the first weeks everything/body that reminds you of the
cigarette...this will help you a lot:be smart stay away from smoking
environments/friends for the first few weeks...

--- Zyban: are you eligible for it? Ask your physician..this
atypical antidepressant may help you a lot with craving
(without impairing for example your sexual desire..)

Good luck

Andy

Welcome, Angel and congrats on your excellent decision to give up the smokes.
You will find lots of help, support, and friendship at this group. It has been
an integral part of my success and tomorrow I will celebrate my seven-month of
being smoke free.

Also, download a meter at silkquit.org, which gives some visible reinforcement
to how much you have saved (in time, money, and life) by quitting.
