Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Sharon and I quit on
Wed/July 8th 2009. I'm 42 and started smoking when I was 15. I've quit several
times, but I know this is my final quit. I am coughing up the nastiest gunk and
it's liberating to free myself of the addiction. Looking forward to getting to
know all of you.
Welcome Sharon,
You will be coughing up some nasty stuff in the first few days. It is your body
trying to get rid of all that nasty gunk. When you smoke you kill off the cilia
(the little hair cells in your lungs that sweep foreign material up and out).
When you quit- they start to grow back.
Hang in there- you can do it!!
Sincerely,
Dave

Welcome Sharon .... this you can do and all of us here are your support
system. So many of us started young and went into our 50's and later to
quit. Are you using any aids to help ? If you are many here can help
with use, side effects and effectiveness. Some of us went cold turkey
and can help you if this is your course. No matter what ... drink
plenty of fluids... vary your routine as smoking is related to
patterns...phone, food ,vehicles .... and above all... remember
cravings will go away whether you smoke or not :-)

I applaud you Sharon. I quit when I was 40 after being diagnosed with cancer. Do
whatever it takes to quit. I have been smoke free and cancer-free now for 8 yrs.
I'm glad you took the first step. This group is wonderful and will help you to
succeed.

Good luck to you. I started smoking when I was 14 and stopped when I
47. I have 18 months of smoke-free living. Jan 2008 was the last time.
If I can do it so can YOU!!!!
This message board helped me a lot.
