symptoms! Geez, I guess it takes some time to get used to breathing
real air after you quit smoking!

The key is SLOW deep breaths - no more than 1 breath every 5 seconds.

Flo, Hi
I am on Chantix and I havent had one side effect, I had no sickness at all, no
trouble sleeping, I take the first one at 7.30 and the next one at 4.30 dont
take the second one too much later, that might cause sleep problems, but really
I have had no bad effects so far.....I quit smoking on the 10th day but had to
make myself do that because I was still fine with smoking some say they didnt
want to smoke I wasnt like that I was still chuffing away, so I forced myself to
make the quit date...
   good luck

Thank you and congratulations to you and your wife. Hugsss from NY.
Am I to understand that after day 8 it still took another week
before your quit was complete? Also the worst part I'm finding is
first thing in the morning and last thing at night. As far as the
side effects as I've said my major concern is anything I can learn
about how or if it has effected anyone's sleep? See I live an
upside down life with the shift I'm on. Along with saying my
prayers about wanting/needing to be a non-smoker is to one day SOON
be off that shift as well.
Thank You for your well wishes.

Neither of us could smoke in the house from then on, but if we
wanted to go out on the deck and smoke it was ok. We did that for
about a week, tapering off every day until we were only lighting up
once or twice a day and then not smoking much of the cig. It just
didn't do anything for us anymore.

Hi,
I don't think this is specific to giving up the smokes, sounds more like
stress to me, shortness of breath and yawning is something i have had before
even while smoking, i also had dizzy spells which would always be followed by a
bout of yawning. Maybe the stress of quiting is causing it?!?

I'm no doctor but have definitely had these symptoms before.

Krisy, My doctor advised me there would be no ill effects taking Zoloft and
Chantix together. You might look Chantix up on the web,for side effects and
drug interaction. Quitting can be done. Do you have children? If so do it for
them. I watched my dad die in May. He was diagnosed with lung cancer on April
12th and died May 12th. It was horrible. Don't do that to your children. It
is a painful and heartbreaking experience. Patsy Four months, three days, 7

Man, do I hear you about the husband thing. I am a little different boat
there, a little! I am married to a career military man, GO ARMY!! any-who, he
was a chewer/dipper for 22 years and he quit cold turkey 3 months ago. He thinks
that because he did it I can just do it. So he is trying to be helpful but, not
so much! He is like, it's hard but if you have strong blood (whatever that is!)
you can do it. And I am like "WHATEVER!" I think that they are both the same
thing smoking and dipping, obviously, and he did it for a lot longer than I
have. But for some reason I am soooo addicted. Gosh, I hate that word. I have,
like you, thought that I was a strong person, I mean what woman isn't!!!! This
is something that I never thought that I would have to, oh what's the right
word, Conquer maybe? I have such praise for all of you out there that have quit
and are staying quit, like my husband says, you all must have "strong blood"
lol... Hopefully like Trish said the pill will
just do its job and I need not worry about it. I guess that is just my
problem, I am a complete worrier. Now another question for those that have
braved reading all of this, does anyone take Zoloft that is on Chantix? yeah you
all know my dirty little secret!!!! I am just wondering because I hopefully, for
everyone's sake, won't have to stop that. Okay enough from me. Thanks again to
everyone I know I keep reiterating that but thanks. I don't know anyone here yet
and just being able to type to you all is really a good thing.

Being a 'cold turkey' person, I am not familiar with Chantix. One
of the posters was having cravings and anxiety the first week of
taking it as she was cutting down on the cigs. Well, she was having
cravings and anxiety because she was keeping herself in withdrawl
much more than normal. The addiction to nicotine means we are in
withdrawl within a few minutes of finishing our last cig, thats why
we light the next one. basically. So, on Chantix you are supposed
to continue to smoke normally right? until your quit date? Alright,
I get all that :) what I don't get is, why are people still on this
drug 2,3,4 even 6 months after they have quit smoking? Nicotine is
out of your system within 72 hours so that is the toughest period.
I would think you would only need support chemically for another few
weeks so you dont end up relying on Chantix rather than Nicotine?

Dont mean to ruffle feathers here but I really am curious because it
does seem to me that if you are on anything for a long period of
time that is chemical you are exchanging one addiction for another
(even though Chantix is not addictive physically but mentally?).
Would you not be working on coping skills in that first month and of
course the cravings would be easier to handle? (relative I know :)
Anyway, I will go and google Chantix but was interested in the
opinion of those who are actually taking it. Thanks :)

Chantix does not replace nicotine. It blocks nicotine. So you smoke for
your first week on it and you actually go through withdrawal while smoking. It
somehow makes the ciggs taste awful and you get no nicotine from them and
you quit and just go through the habit withdrawl. It works. I would have
never quit if not for Chantix.

Zoloft and Chantix are different classes of drugs - if you get all of your
prescriptions from the same pharmacy - they'd warn you if there was an
issue.

Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

It works like this...

The first week you are taking it and smoking... It blocks the nicotine from
your brain so you do not feel the effects of smoking a cigarette... So those
part of the withdrawals you will go through that first week... Then on day 8
Is your quit day... By then the effects are not as much of a problem and you
will able to deal with the cravings for a cigarette when they come... Yes
you still get them, but they are not as strong and the meds keep you from
going ballistic and killing someoneon on your quit.. Ok I really do not know
anyone who used they were trying to quit smoking as a reason for murder, but
ya sure do feel like killing someone.. Well chantix makes it so that you don
t feel ugly like that..

Hi everyone.. And thanks for the encouraging words from all of you. I am
like really really scared now.. I have been reading and reading and I am
like "Okay maybe I will push my quit date up a bit!" Even though I know I am
not going to. Like I said before I start the Smoking Cessation classes on
the 5th and that is the date that I have chosen to quit, but after reading
and seeing that people actually do smoke after they are on the pill I am
scared that I will not even want to quit. I know this sounds crazy, maybe I
am a little neurotic right now, but I am just scared that I will never be
able to trash this nasty habit of mine. I have 2 kids, 5 and 8, that I can't
even run around and play with. I know that quitting is different for
everyone, but could someone please explain how exactly the pill works
because I thought that once I started taking it, I would not need to smoke.
Thanks so much to everyone for listening to me and hopefully not thinking I
am a neurotic freak!! lol.

Hi Krissy,

I hear YOU BIG time!!!! I'm a LOT neurotic...anxious and have
admittidly said I'm Scared. I'm so afraid of failure. I thought
cutting back ahead of time was the answer. Maybe I'm being too hard
on myself. I just don't know. Along with smoking cessation classes
will you be taking Chantix or NRT? I am married 20 years to a
wonderful man but he doesn't seem to know how to help me. Other
than love and support me. I spent almost our entire 20th wedding
anniversary Wed August 29th seeking and searching for help. He
wanted to take me out to dinner I couldn't. Too jittery. I've told
him I will try to make it up to him this weekend. I keep hoping
that Chantix will magically kick in. For some that is what has
happened. And I'll even admit I've posted that I am from NY just
kinda hoping someone would want to keep in touch via IM but was too
chicken too ask. So I join you on the neurotic couch and following
the Chantix rules my quit date is Sept 2nd not August 28th as I had
hoped I might be able to sooner.
hugssss Krissy and may we both be successful

Hi Angie,
Wow you smoked a whole pack from day 1-7 and on day 8 NOTHING?
Really?
Easy?
I've had cravings and anxiety every single day!!
I'm sure everyone has gathered that by now from my frantic writings.
Are you short of breath Angie?
You are 4 days a non-smoker short of breath? Headaches?
I'm feeling this already.
Anyway thank you for the well wishes.

Actually the first five days I was smoking more than that. I usually do have
headaches all the time but since I started the chantix I haven't had any. I'm
also not having any shortness of breath. In fact I think I can breathe better. I
am sick though. Maybe a sinus infection but it started the day after I quit.
Well someone earlier posted that we should watch " tobacco, you killed my mom"
on you tube. I was craving a cig all day but I just finished watching it and I
can tell you I don't want one now. I am a nurse and I have quite a few patients
with COPD. I don't want to end up like that. Angie.......I have been quit for 4

No non-smokers here - just ex-smokers.

There is not a non-smoker in the world that can have a clue what this
addiction is about.

Hi Angie,
Seems we are cross posting. Thank you for your inspiration.
I'm 44 and I've smoked since I was 16. Of course in the begining
it was nothing...teen stuff but, it never ended and I found myself
up to a pack and a half a day.
Thanks for everything,
Flo

are having a harder time getting oxygen. I'm also yawning alot and am
tired...like I just am not getting enough oxygen...has anyone else ever

Hi Trish,

Thank you for your input. What did you mean by Chantix twice a
day "was just too much on me"? In what way? Did it prohibit you
from sleeping. I've actually taken 2 weeks off from work to do this
and trying to plan for my return when I will need to work 11p-7a and
any input on Chantix and sleeping or lack there of is appreciated.

And congratulations on your success and everyone elses I pray each
day I will have those numbers behind my name as well.
Thanks a bunch,
Flo

You can set your settings to daily digest so you do not get individual
emails... For the group owner to go and unsubscribe you is a tedious
task...
That is if this group has one.. And some groups don't have an owner or
moderator... So sorry ... But you need to either put yourself on daily
   digest or unsubscribe yourself.. ...

We are not mad at you.. But remember.. You are talking to people who have
mostly just quit smoking... And well.. That should speak for itself... I
have had a tough day... I am having a craving and so now im taking it out
on
you... Thank you for being my sound board...ha ha ha

Oh and btw.. This board does not send out that many messages on a regular

they give over 200 emails a day.. Now that is a lot..

Are all you people upset with me? I did nothing wrong. I did not
realize all this mail would be sent to me when I joined. I will not
have access to a computer for a few weeks .. I tried to get to the
address you have for unsubscribing but it did not work. I am sorry if
I have offended anybody. I know how upsetting that can be, I just
wanted to see if I could be of any help to anyone if just by
saying 'hang in there' you can do it. If anybody can unsubscribe me
please do it.. I mean no harm to anyone. My gift to you all is, watch
youtube,'tobacco, you killed my mom'. I am on day 114 and can be found
   at quitnet.com.
