Dear DQ,

Every phenomenon has its objective scientific explanation.
In regard to your question on the energy ball, here I am citing
d-r Wang Jianjun's book "Natural Qigong":

"In the further development, the qigong practitioner
may encounter another phenomenon, which he should know
in advance, in order to know how to proceed. Some day,
during the practicing of the quiet exercise we may see through our
closed eyes a small sparkling ball of light... Qi is formed constantly
in the process of the daily qigong training. In an especially good
inner relaxation and proper outer conditions, the energies in our body
create a type of high-quality energy in the form of a small ball. It
is seen on the level of the eyes, as if it is out of our body, but
actually is within it. This shows that qualitative changes have taken
place in our body.
The ancient Taoist classics describe in detail these energy balls,
called with different names: elixirs - panacea for all diseases,
elixir of longevity and immortality, etc...
When we notice this energy ball, through the medium of our thought
we should send it to the lower dantian. Even if we just observe it
and do not direct it towards the dantian area, in few instances it
will get down to this "elixir field" by its own. The wise Nature had
thought about these things and they take place without the need of our
assistance. That is why, let's not worry if in our excitement of the
seen we forget to send this globe of qi to dantian.
In this moment, we can even see dantian as a freshly plowed field,
on which furrows the elixir ball sows itself like a seed. From this
day on, we should do the quiet exercise even more diligently and
daily, because only then are new energies created. They are the only
food for this energy "baby" in dantian, or - in the language of the
other symbol - "the water", with which every day we water the "seed"
in order to enable its germination and growth.
If we do not practice the quiet exercise (meditation) regularly or
discontinue it at all, then the germinated energy sprouted in dantian
will perish like the unwatered plants wither after some period of
time. The process of its development continues about three years.
Then it transforms into a small firm crystal..."

With regards,
