Re: [pws-autism] New in this group

Yes, I believe they are possibly signs of autism.I would first bring the concerns to your pediatrician. If he can't provide a satisfactory explanation to this strange behavior,  I would schedule an appointment with an autism specialist.(I believe I would want to take the baby to a specialist, regardless.) I have found that pediatricians are ill-equipped to diagnose autism in its earliest stages.

Subject: [pws-autism] New in this group

My 6 1/2 month old baby girl with PWS(UPD) is arching her back a lot.
She only does this when she is awake. When she is lying on bed she
pulls her head backwards and her eyes backwards as she is trying to
look at something even do there is nothing to look at(for no reason)
and she will stay in that position for hours. I have to wait till she
falls asleep to feed her so she can relax otherwise she will arch her
back.
She is not interested in her sorroundings or faces. She can look for
hours at her mobile on her crib and she can track objects or toys but
if I look at her eyes she will try to avoid me by turning her head or
her eyes. She does not smile socially yet.
She was a 32 week gestational age premiee baby.

I was wondering if these are signs of autism.

Thanks,

Milagros
