This herbal remedy sounds good especially if it is detoxing the kidney and
liver. If it is working, keep on using it. No one has ever said that
about the Aller'g Free, but I am glad you told me.

No, I have not found Yucca to help with itching -- only inflammation and
arthritic symptoms and pain.

Debbie,

I am so sorry to hear about Bongo's passing. Our deepest sympathies go out
to you and your family during these trying times. Bongo sounds like he was
such a special boy, and the story of him and Cleatus is a hoot! I know his
absence has a deeper meaning for you than most because of his special
abilities.

It's natural to assign yourself guilt when things like this happen. If I
only did this. If I only stopped that. But, you have no reason at all to feel
guilty because no matter how hard we try or how perfect we follow a plan,
life has a way of throwing us curve balls.

Take care and keep in touch. May your other pets live long and healthy
lives.

Darleen and Cat Donnelly,

I just wanted to say thank you for all of your kindness, advice and
suggestions for treatments to help me to keep Bongo seizure free.

It is with a very heavy heart that I am telling you that my best
friend passed away on Sunday night. Bongo had been seizure free for 4
months after he had been switched to Potassium Bromide.

He has been to the vet 2 weeks before he died and was found to be in
good health even though his blood work showed that the Bromide levels
were at a level considered to be less than therapeutic.

The week prior to this our weather in NY was very warm and we were
all able to spend lots of time outside playing ball and doing yard
work, Bongo was acting just like a puppy and I was fooled into
thinking that my boy had turned a corner and appeared to be healthy.

On Sunday I cooked some rice and burger for all three dogs as a
special treat. The dogs seemed very content. I went out to the store
and was gone for about 2 hours, and when I returned my husband said
to me that I must have overfed Bongo because he had been throwing up
and that his stomach appeared to be hard and he was groaning.

My husband was blaming me, after sitting with the dog for an hour; I
said to my DH that I think he is going to have a seizure, because I
smell it. He thought I was crazy... I looked at his gums and said
that they were white, so we decided to call the vet. . I called the
vet and asked to have Bongo looked at.

I was asking Bongo if he wanted to go out with me for a car ride, he
perked up and stood up and was walking to me, but not acting right
Bongo was able to stand but he needed to be carried to the car and
put on the seat. He whined about being handled.

I was speaking to him all during the 20 mile drive to the vet
hospital. He had my nephew sitting with him in the car, the dog was
acting like he was having a hard time staying focused, then he stood
up and he was in the rear seat nudging my shoulder and placing his
mouth near my neck, I was still driving the car, but I knew at that
minute that he was saying goodbye to me.

When we were less than 3 minutes from the hospital he slid down the
seat and would only respond to my voice with a whimper, he broke my
heart.

At the hospital he had to be carried out of the car by the vet
examined Bongo, and he said to me that he could bring my boy back. He
said that he was bleeding internally, from what he believed to be a
tumor rupture (he had tumor growths on his liver, along with scar
tissue). I asked for the vet to not let him suffer anymore.

He brought my Bongo back to the hospital area and gave him some
oxygen and then we started the procedure to euthanize my boy. I
stayed with him until the very end. I could not leave him until I was
sure he was gone.

I had him cremated, and bought his urn.

I can't help but feel little guilty because I was never able to
master the raw diet, due to time issues and because he seemed to be
doing so well.

My heart will mend in time, but I am sure that I will never have
another dog like Bongo, he was so connected to me that he was able to
tell people around me when I was having a stroke, and when ever I had
major fluctuations with my blood pressure and he even seemed to know
when I was light headed, or sometimes just before I became dizzy or
light headed.

I owed this dog my life. He was the most devoted companion, loving &
loyal canine friend. I thought of him as my son. This dog taught me
how to love and to be open to love others, even if you get hurt.

I would like to tell you a story about how Bongo has been preparing
all of us for his passing for a very long time.

In August of 2004, I went away for the weekend, I returned home
around dusk, and let the dogs go outside to relieve their selves. A
small black kitten walked din the house with Bongo by his side and
lay down on the floor with him. The other 2 dogs had a fit when the
kitten meowed. Bongo defended his baby.

I was not happy, because I did not want a cat. I live in a very rural
area and have some property, irresponsible pet owners drive by and
dump unwanted pets all of the time.
Bongo convinced us that the kitten should stay, we check with our few
neighbors to see if the cat belonged to them, no takers so we kept
the cat and named him Cleatus.
Bongo convinced the other 2 dogs to accept the kitten. The kitten
went on to become a playmate for all three dogs, my husband, nephew
and myself.

From the time we got the unexpected cat until early November, his
seizure activity was low; we had a really bad spell right after
Thanksgiving. He has cluster seizures for 2 days, we ended up giving
him valium, and Phenobarbital and then began switching him over to
potassium bromide. The new medication seemed to be working.
The cat spent moist of his day being Bongo's shadow, it was like the
cat was his baby. They played together and in turn the cat became
very outgoing and played with the other dogs too. The cat also slept
curled up to Bongo, he even cleaned Bongo's ears.
On the day Bongo died, he played with all the animals. I swear he was
telling them what their duties would be after he was gone. Otherwise
I do not have an explanation for the behaviors they are showing.
On Sunday night, the 2 dogs and the cat slept on my bed all as close
to my husband and me as they could be, the cat and our Aussie would
lick our tears away.

Last night they all changed places, the Shepard slept in Bongo's spot
along side me on the floor, he is now following me every where I go
just like my Bongo did. The cat made a bed inside my headboard and
the Aussie is sleeping under the covers between my DH and me.

Many people say that I am giving the dogs and cat human emotions that
they are not capable of but I remain convinced that they exist.
I know that Bongo is in a better place, but I can't help but wish he
were still with me.

Bongo was my first dog and my life is forever changed from having
known him. I know that he is waiting for me at the rainbow bridge and
that I will see him again.

Today is better than yesterday. The grief is still too fresh, but I
know that someday I will be able to look back and just remember the
very beautiful boy that was part of my life with joy and love.
Again thank you for all you have done for me in the past.

Debbie Rhodes

Apparently there is a great deal of confusion regarding this. I have heard
everything from this is an urban legend to the claims are greatly blown out of
proportion. I have gone to quite a few sites about this and the issue bewcomes
even more confusing. Considering how much money is made from supplement sales, I
find it difficult to understand the industry slashing its own throat.

Hi! Please forward this to everyone you know,
including other yahoo
groups. Also, call your local news stations. I
called mine, and
received a call back from channel 4 in Detroit.
They will be
investigating this story! Another idea is to
print this out and
post it on the bulletin boards at your local
health food stores such
as Whole Foods. Lastly, you should call or write
to your state
representatives, congressman, and the president
and vice president.
Sometimes it seems like things like this our out
of our hands, but
if everyone reading this truly takes action,
something can be done.
Let's try it this time and see if we truly can
prevent this from
happening.

READ BELOW:

Subject: Banning Sales of Food Supplements
Worldwide

If we don't act now, we have no right to complain
afterwards. Act
now!

Read this very important health message below and
contact everyone.

Your right to choose your vitamin, mineral and
other supplements may
end in June of this year (2005). After that U.S.
supplements will be
defined and controlled by the World Trade
Organization (WTO) and the
World Health Organization (WHO). The CODEX
ALIMENTARIUS
(Food Code) is setting the supplement standards
for all countries in
the WTO. They will be enforced by the WTO and
will override U.S.
laws. The U.S. President and Congress agreed to
this take-over when
the WTO Treaty was signed. Violations are
punished by WTO trade
sanctions. CODEX drastically restricts vitamins,
minerals, herbs and
other food supplements. CODEX met secretly in
November, 2004 and
finalized "Step 8 (the final stage)" to begin
implementation in
June '05.

The CODE includes:

(1) No supplement can be sold for preventive or
therapeutic use.

(2) Any potency higher than RDA (minimal
strength) is a "drug"
requiring a prescription and must be produced by
drug companies.
Over 5000 safe items now in health stores will be
banned,
terminating health stores as we now know them.

(3) CODEX regulations become binding
internationally.

(4) New supplements are banned unless given very
expensive
CODEX testing and approval.

CODEX now applies to Norway and Germany, among
others, where
zinc tablets rose from $4 per bottle to $52.
Echinacea (an ancient
immune-enhancement herb) rose from $14 to $153
(both examples
are now allowed by prescription only). They are
now "drugs!"
Vitamin C above 200 mg, niacin above 32 mg,
vitamin B6 above 4 mg
-all are banned over-the-counter as drugs. No
essential amino acids
(arginine, lysine (used effectively for fever
blisters), carnitine,
L-Tryptophan (used effectively for eliminating
depression), GABA
(used effectively for eliminating anxiety), etc.,
Essential Fatty
Acids
(omegas 3, 6, 9, etc.), or other essential
supplements such as
DMEA, DHEA, CoQ10, MSM, beta-carotene, etc. are
allowed!

The CODEX rules are not based on real science.
They are made
by a few people meeting in secret (see web sites
below), not
necessarily scientists. In 1993 the FDA and drug
corporations tried
to put all supplements under restriction and
prescription. But over
4 million Americans told Congress and the
President to protect
their freedom of choice on health supplements.
The DSHEA Law
was passed in 1994, which does so. But this will
be over ruled
by CODEX and the World Trade Organization!

Virtually nothing about it has been in the media.
What the drug
corporations have failed to do through Congress
they have gotten
by sneak attack through CODEX with the help of a
silent media.
What can be done at this late hour?

(1) Spread the word as much as possible. Inform
yourselves :
http://www.ahha.org
http://www.iahf.com
http://www.alliance-natural-health.org.

(2) Oppose bills S.722 and H.R.3377. These
support the
CODEX restrictions with U.S. laws, changing the
DSHEA law.

(3) Support H. R.1146 which would restore the
sovereignty of
the U.S. Constitution over CODEX, etc.

(4) Express your wishes to the President,
Senators and
Representatives (They got us into this!) ASAP.

(5) Contact multi-level health marketing groups
that can get
their members to inform the government.

(6) Contact the British Alliance for Natural
Health (see web site
above).
It has succeeded in challenging the CODEX
directives in World Court
and will appear in court again later this month
or next. They need
help
financially, having carried the fight effectively
for everyone. CODEX
and
the FDA wish to "protect" us by controlling
supplements in the same
way they do prescription drugs. A study of the
latter by three
medical
scientists was reported in the Journal of the
American Medical
Association, April 15, 1998 -Vol. 279, No. 15, p.
1200: "Incidence of
Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR's) was found to be
extremely high."
Covering 30 years (1966 to 1996) it was found
that in the U.S. an
average of 106,000 hospitalized patients per year
(290 per day!!)
DIE from ADR's and 2,200,000 need more
hospitalization for recovery!
These were FDA approved drugs, properly
administered by competent
professionals in hospitals--none were considered
malpractice. This
is the number four cause of death in the U.S.
When combined,
these account for 7% of all hospitalized
patients. This is equivalent
to a 9-11 attack every ten days. There are very
few fatalities from
supplements or the news would be on every front
page. There is no
need for more FDA control of supplements than is
already in place,
which is substantial. Instead of drastically
restricting supplements,
why doesn't the FDA better control, restrict the
extremely

Hi friends.I belong to a few groups as i figure the more the more you
learn..I have many pets /rotti, english mastiff, 2 casts,2 birds and
fish.I just lost my other Mastiff/Rotti mix to bone cancer Dec 23
2004.I still miss him a whole lot.
He was a big dog of 147 pounds with a front amp and partial scull
removal due to the cancer. He was fantastic for ovwer 1 yr.I was told
only a couple of months even with amp/chemo/supps/ So he amazed the
vets.
He is gone and I have a new puppy named Benny (e mastiff)
I still have his rotti mom Teesah who is a ripe old 14 1/2 yrs and
doing great.
So here i am.I hope to learn to love and to support this group.
Im glad to be among such great company.I know some of you and hope to
get to know you all.
I hope to be an asset here.
God Bless you and your pets!!

Thanks for your reply,as a matter of fact there ws and that's just
what i did. They said that they put it in an opaque container with an
air tight pump top so that it does not have to be refrigerated.

Hi Jenny, I think any puppy loves to get into paper products, just for the
fun of it. Jeb was eating any kind of paper he could find, he even ate half
of a bill! He also had brittle fur. Two weeks ago I switched him over to Pet
Guard's Life Span. I can get it at the health food store. It has a lot of
the omega fatty acids. I can't believe the change in him. His fur looks
great, and I haven't caught him eating a tissue in over a week! He just
loves it too. We decided to switch all 9 dogs to it, even with the added
expense. Even if I buy the 40 pound bag, it will be twice what I was paying
before, but worth it. Maria

I just found out that fish oil needs to be refrigerated or it looses
it's potency, but I can't find an estimation on how long it will last
out of the fridge. I'm trying to figure out if the bottle I have is
still any good. Thanks,

I have a 6 month old pup who also loves to tear up tissues. I don't
know if he actually ingests any though. He's on all raw diet with
RMB's making up about 75% of his diet. I considered the tissue mess
to just be a puppy thing, is it a sign of calcium deficiency in
puppies as well?
Thanks,

Soap and tissue eating are a sign of a calcium deficiency. I would
recommend a high quality vitamin containing at least 50 mg. of calcium for
a pet 50 lbs. and under and 100 mg. of calcium for a pet 50 lbs. and
over. You can look at Mega Pet on my website at www.purelypets.com

Yes, it is definitely a sign of nutritional deficiency or illness. I forget
what it was, but someone on my pug list had a dog that ate soap. She took
him into the vet and he had a problem with some internal organ and she was
lucky that he could be treated before it became serious. I wish I could
remember the information for you! I would definitely upgrade to something
better
than Old Roy, though. That stuff is the worst of the worst from what I
understand.

Help! Jebediah will not stop eating tissue and other non food items.
Today he came across a bar of Ivory soap. By the time I found it,
most of it was gone, along with half the wrapper. I suspected Jeb of
course (we have 9 dogs). Sometimes he gets a stomach ache, like
tonight. Could this behavior be related to a nutritional deficiency?
In the past I have fed my dogs a bones and raw food diet, but with
the recent addition of two elderly family members into our home, I
put them back on commercial dog food. Jeb eats canned Ol' Roy, any
healthful scraps that I find, plus I add fish oil, homeopathic
allergy drops, and sometimes dandelion or other herbs. He loves
radishes. Unfortunately, two old ladies use a lot of tissues, and
they will not do without them, nor will they control them. I am
constantly looking for them on the floor, or tucked into furniture.
BTW, Jeb is a 6 year old Australian Cattle Dog. The breed is stocky,
but Jeb doesn't carry enough weight. The other dogs will
occasionally carry paper things in their mouth, and the Jack Russell
makes a real mess with a tissue.

I purchased a product called worm-out from this company and put it in
