Roxy~
WELCOME to the list! I am so glad that you liked my 'parasite hype'
post. :) I must have been in a real rush that day because I forgot to
mention that I also use Flea Terminator supplement to keep the fleas under
control. Oh, well. I should have taken my ginko. <G>
Yes, there is definitely something wrong when homeopathic vets recommend
something like Heartguard. They either have not done their homework, or they
are afraid to buck tradition and risk malpractice and pressure from the
mainline medical/veterinary community. I recently heard of one person whose
holistic vet prescribed Rimadyl for their dog and it's well known about
Rimadyl's extremely toxic and potentially deadly side effects.
Black Walnut Hull and wormwood are used as alternatives for heartworm, but
since I use preprepared pet products (that are human grade, of course) which
contain dosage information, I cannot advise you as to dosages on individual
herbs or products I am not familiar with. I did however, find a mention in
Mary Tilford-Wulff's ALL YOU EVER WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT HERBS FOR PETS that
wormwood is so toxic internally that she would never recommend it for regular
extended use, like mosquito season for instance. It should not ever be used
by seizuring pets, pregnant or lactating pets, pets with kidney or liver
problems, and it may cause problems with the nervous system.
Now, folks on some other lists may be able to tell you how much black walnut
hull tincture to use because I have seen it mentioned on several other lists.
I use the Nature's Finest Herbal Wormer which contains garlic, (onion
optional), parsley, ground mustard seed, cayenne pepper, and ground black
walnut hull. I use it for two weeks, give it a rest for 30 days, and then I
start a routine of one week on, 3 weeks off throughout the warm months. In
the winter, I only use it as needed if something like tapeworm crops up, or
if I plan on breeding a female.
I am not familiar with artemesia quassia supreme, but since I respect Mary
Tilford's opinion and knowledge in herbology, I think I would only use
something that contains fresh wormwood if my dog had contracted heartworm and
I was looking to eradicate it. If you want to use it and are looking for
dosages, I would suggest you contact the manufacturer or the person who sold
it to you.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.
